What name are you answering to? Not the one on your birth certificate, the other one. The name a teacher used once in front of the class, or a partner reached for in an argument, or a hard season quietly stamped on you.

In Daniel 10, an exhausted old man lies face down by a river. He is seventy years into exile; he has been praying three times a day for something he now knows he will not live to see, and after three weeks of grief and fasting, heaven has said nothing. When the answer finally comes, it does not come as an explanation. It comes as a hand on his shoulder and a name.

If Jesus really is Lord, why does evil still seem to run the world? In Daniel 7, the strange and terrifying vision at the very heart of the book, Tim Horman shows us what God sees behind the beastly empires of history: a heavenly courtroom where justice will be done, and one like a son of man receiving a kingdom that will never end.

How can you tell someone is a Christian? Would anyone around you even be able to?

Linda Bailey preaches from Daniel 6, and the surprising thing she finds there is not the lions. It is the fact that every single person in the Babylonian government already knew exactly what Daniel believed and which law he would never break. There is an army outside the walls, the city has hours left, and the king throws a party. Tim Horman preaches from Daniel 5, the chapter that gave us the phrase "the writing is on the wall".

Belshazzar knew exactly what had happened to his ancestor Nebuchadnezzar. He had read the testimony. And he still hauled out the sacred cups from the temple in Jerusalem to toast the gods of gold and stone. Daniel's indictment is not the sacrilege. It is five words: you have not humbled yourself.

The most powerful man in the world stood on the roof of his palace, looked out over the city he had built, and said one sentence that cost him everything. A year later he was in a field on his hands and knees, eating grass.

Why would a good God let his brand new church be struck with persecution, prison and death before it had barely drawn breath?
