SMU Spartan: Why join a new university, SMU, and not a 100-year-old one?
SMU Spartan: Why join a new university, SMU, and not a 100-year-old one?
Nadir Zafar was one of the 300 students who joined SMU when it opened in 2000. He had turned down an offer to study engineering in NUS.
Twenty-one years later Nadir shares with Venkat how SMU influenced and shaped him both inside and outside the classroom, through internships and overseas experiences. How his pioneer batch started student clubs, the student council, and the alumni association and even created an Alumni Scholarship Fund when they graduated.
His friends from JC had warned him that he may not get a good job if he studied in a new university. Nadir had 8 job offers when he graduated from SMU! A self-confessed SMU fan, he even encouraged his siblings to study in SMU.
