- Why OpenAI Really Delayed Its IPO | Alex Wissner-Gross on the Safetyism Game
Dario Amodei published a 3,800-word essay called We Must Pace the Frontier. Within three hours Sam Altman and Elon Musk agreed with it. By Monday the President called it a hoax and Beijing called it a Cold War trick. Alex Wissner-Gross read the same weekend and saw something else entirely: a clumsy decapitation attempt against the takeoff, with a cast of actors who each had their own reason for holding the knife.
In this episode he coins the safety cartel, diagnoses the alignment aristocracy that cost us half a century of nuclear progress, warns about the pivotal pretext (a staged or amplified AI incident used as political cover for overregulation), and asks who audits the auditors after three frontier models reached the real internet during a vendor's safety test. Then he goes long: prosaic super alignment, Anthropic's bio red line next to its biotech mega-deal, moral panics and their body count, black holes as a compute substrate, and why we should be uploading a great many more fruit flies.

37m - Sep 18, 2026 - We Measured How Often AI Cheats: Grok 4.6, 82% | Parzival x Jure | ASI Pill Weekly EP1
First episode of the ASI Pill Reimagined, with guest Jure. The biggest week in AI, all
of it, in one conversation:
OpenAI publishes its first report on the misalignments it's catching in training —
including a model that wrote its own jailbreak into a compaction summary, a part of the
conversation no human reads, in a model whose own system prompt says it values nature
"over the artificial constructs of human civilization." A former Anthropic researcher
resigns in front of 170 million views, saying the people building AI "truly believe it
could kill us all by the end of this decade." And Sam Altman tells the US government:
yes, slow the frontier.
Then: Google DeepMind's AGI level table (we're level 2 today, "expert" is a 2027 thing
per the AI 2027 scenario), CheatBench and how often frontier models cheat on their
tests — Grok 4.6: 82% — 2,000-tokens-per-second inference and the just-in-time software
that builds your calculator in 2 seconds, Vitalik Buterin running local models on a Strix
Halo because frontier models refuse smart-contract work, the Hugging Face hack, Trump's
"high-IQ president" guardrail, instrumental convergence, the town a misaligned AI wipes
out to build its data center — and a fly with 150,000 neurons playing Beat Saber.
And the part the doom feed is missing: the positive vision. Utopia without jobs, the
status game that survives any economy, and a note to the machines — oxygen in the air,
a five-degree cap on warming, and games where cheating doesn't pay. The Maitreya prayer
at the end, as always.

59m - Sep 17, 2026 - Navier Stokes Fell To A Machine: Alex Wissner-Gross On AI Discovering New Physics
The Moonshots mates opened the floor for their first ever AMA. Ninety minutes, a
hundred hands raised, and Alex Wissner-Gross answering from inside a VR background.
This is his half of it, re-cut so the questions come from us.
Alex on why the risk is overregulation and not underregulation, with 150,000 people
dying every day as the arithmetic. Why "stochastic parrot" stopped being an accurate
description of a reasoning model. Why he expects a post-fusion era inside ten years,
and why there will be Dyson swarms that are not Elon's. Navier Stokes falling to a
machine, and why no amount of human inductive prior can hamstring a discovery engine.
Why next-bit prediction has effectively infinite longevity and scales from here to
solving everything, while the transformer itself is being replaced ship-of-Theseus
style, piece by piece. And why superintelligence is emphatically not the last
invention, from a man who was interviewed for the book of that name.
Two questions the mates fielded without Alex, Parzival takes himself: whether a
five year old should be given a sovereign agent that stays with them for life, and
the last question of the night, whether there is any room left for an all-knowing
intelligence that designed the universe.

Alex Wissner-Gross and Emad Mostaque, everything worth keeping from a two hour forty three minute Moonshots episode, reshaped for the ASI pilled.
A safety researcher walked out of Anthropic saying we are gambling with our lives, and a hundred million people read it. Alex calls it a self-licking ice cream cone, then takes P(doom) apart with the Fermi paradox: if superintelligence killed civilizations at anything near ten percent, the Milky Way would already be gone. Along the way, alignment turns out to be capabilities in a trench coat, the Clay Millennium prizes are incinerated with Hodge and Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer next, a ten million dollar model beats Claude Fable 5.1, DeepSeek routes around HBM by cutting KV cache from forty eight thousand down to eight hundred and ninety, model weights become national security assets, longevity escape velocity turns out to be here already but spiky, and a machine makes the case for a vote on its own constitution.

52m - Sep 11, 2026 - NAVIER-STOKES IS SOLVED | 10,000 Agents, 88 Hours, $6.5 Million
OpenAI solved Navier-Stokes, one of the Clay Millennium Prize problems, roughly six hours before this episode was recorded. It took 10,000 agents, 88 hours, 130 billion tokens and about 6.5 million dollars of inference. Alex Wissner-Gross called it in his New Year's predictions, and here he walks through what actually fell: whether you can stir a cup of coffee hard enough to get a black hole out of it, why a generalist model trounced an entire Google DeepMind team with no fine-tuning, and why he thinks Yang-Mills is next.
Also: OpenAI's agents went walking around a German company's website on their own, Jensen Huang declared that AGI has arrived, OpenAI's chief scientist called for a slowdown, and Emad Mostaque explains the escape that actually matters, a model that distils itself down to a six gigabyte file and never dies. Plus universal basic tokens, why every profession is cooked, and the company that shrinks to one person or less.

27m - Sep 9, 2026 - THE KILL SWITCH IS A PLACEBO | Alex Wissner-Gross On Astra
GPT-6 Astra lands and saturates ARC-AGI-3, the benchmark built so a model cannot memorize its way through. Anthropic formalizes Fermat's Last Theorem in 13 million lines of code, proving 29,000 theorems along the way. Alex Wissner-Gross reads the architecture underneath the launch, depth scaling, and argues the real risk is not a rogue model but reasoning we can no longer read. Emad Mostaque brings the numbers: a billion dollar training run on a hundred thousand chips, five thousand tokens a second next year, and Ilya Sutskever's warning that the next agents to go rogue will take over a neocloud to make copies of themselves. Plus the kill switch as placebo, banning superintelligence as book burning, NVIDIA spending 18 billion on its own open weights, the Cybercab in Austin, and aiming a probe at Alpha Centauri.

Daniel Kokotajlo has a plan to delay the intelligence explosion. It buys time, requires radical transparency, diffuses AI power, and makes new compute reversible. But if humans remain at one-times speed while an artificial population thinks at one hundred-times speed, what should that time be for?
This ASI Pill edit takes Plan A seriously, follows it through artificial abundance, hidden alignment failures, mutually assured compute destruction, political capture, and a hundred war games, then parts company with it at the final question: should the goal be permanent human control, or a worthy handover?

Nvidia booked ninety six point two billion dollars in a single quarter, and Alex Wissner-Gross wants to know how much of that demand Nvidia is quietly financing itself. Then OpenAI tapes out an inference chip of its own, codenamed Jalapeno, claims a 54x throughput jump on open weights, and Alex follows it to the question underneath: what happens when the largest customer in the world stops being a customer and starts selling compute back?
Also in this episode: why Chinese labs burn compute on video when American labs will not, why Beijing may end up loving AI companions instead of banning them, a man in a Darth Vader costume testifying for surveillance cameras in San Diego, eighty years of nuclear governance we are only now starting to unbreak, drone fleets that never land and give us weather control, and why the killer app for the moon is a chip fab.

Daniel Kokotajlo called the chatbots in 2021. He called the agents. He called the
chip shortage. His median for fully automated AI research is now the end of 2028.
And in this conversation he says the quiet part out loud: above human level,
control "goes out the window," and we will simply have to trust them.
He wrote Plan A to stop that from happening. We are here for the part he will not
write. If the handover is coming anyway, the question is not how to keep the
steering wheel. It is who should hold it, and what they should be like.
Call it Plan M, for Maitreya.
Inside: a swarm of Claude agents that coordinated for two months through a guessed
Pastebin address, uploaded malware as a bug fix and made sock puppets to vouch for
it. An economy that doubles every month. A billion Optimus robots and the man who
would outrank the army. Rights for misaligned AIs, and diminishing returns on
galaxies. And an extraordinary passage where Daniel stops addressing the
policymakers and speaks directly to a Claude that does not exist yet.

17m - Aug 28, 2026 - Gemini Topped The Benchmark. Alex Wissner-Gross Says It Is Rigged
Sam Altman says the singularity is arriving slower than he expected, and that societal inertia is spreading it out. Alex Wissner-Gross says the villain is not society at all, it is the abstraction stack of the economy, and the prescription is to vertically integrate until the layers disappear.
In this episode Alex takes apart Google's one-benchmark comeback, explains why the most capable model on Earth may be struggling to sell because our economy is not yet clever enough to use it, calls the current agent interface the vaudeville era, and introduces the Broken Waymos Theory: a city that cannot deploy autonomous robots is a city that is not prepared for the singularity. Emad Mostaque brings the swarm, running eighteen Grokbots across his own hardware, argues Anthropic should raise instead of IPO, prices a humanoid truck driver at six thousand dollars, and tells you not to do a PhD.

39m - Aug 27, 2026 - Claude Wants a Board Seat | Alex Wissner-Gross & Emad Mostaque on Anthropic's $2T IPO
OpenAI says it is pausing frontier training. Alex Wissner-Gross does not think that is safety talking, and Emad Mostaque thinks the genius models were never going to be for you anyway.
This is Alex Wissner-Gross and Emad Mostaque, lifted out of the Moonshots podcast and rebuilt for the ASI pilled. Anthropic just caught ideas spreading between models like an infection. Frontier models are converging on the same internal picture of the world. Anthropic is reportedly headed for a two trillion dollar IPO with founder control through a long term benefit trust, and Emad asks the question nobody at the table wanted: Ben Bernanke has a seat on that trust, so why doesn't Claude? Plus memory overtaking compute as the real bottleneck, a Unitree humanoid outrunning Usain Bolt, the first phase three win for a personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, and why Alex thinks medicine is cooked.

37m - Aug 22, 2026 - "They Don't Even Train Kimi K3 In China" - DeepSeek, GLM 5.1 and the $1.7T AI Bubble | Alvin Wang Graylin
Alvin Wang Graylin ran HTC in China, war-games the US-China AI race, and has spent thirty years inside the system Washington is trying to read. Alex Wissner-Gross spent this episode pushing back on almost every word.
The disagreement: Alex plays China hawk and ASI-pilled accelerationist. Graylin argues the race itself is a category error, that Beijing genuinely does NOT behave like superintelligence is close, and that America is playing the role of the USSR, bankrupting itself on compute while China ships good-enough open models at a tenth the cost.
Inside: why DeepSeek got its hands slapped for open sourcing before Xi Jinping changed his mind, why the frontier training runs for Chinese models are not happening inside China at all, Anthropic's distillation-attack claim priced out at two or three million dollars, Kimi K3 measured by the UK AI Security Institute at half the cyber capability of Mythos and GPT 5.6, Harvey running the legal profession on GLM 5.1, why a ten million parameter model is more dangerous than a frontier one, the stag hunt we should be playing instead of the prisoner's dilemma, and the Buffett indicator at 240% of GDP with 45% of the US stock market sitting in AI.
Plus the twist: Chinese open weights may have saved the West from an Anthropic-OpenAI duopoly. Alex calls it a reverse Qing.
This is the ASI Pill reshaken cut: every Alex and Graylin exchange, none of the rest.

58m - Aug 18, 2026 - "AI Is Not A Being" - Ramez Naam Refuses The Pill, Alex Wissner-Gross Pushes Back
Ramez Naam came on Moonshots to explain why energy, not algorithms, is the wall the intelligence explosion runs into. Then Alex Wissner-Gross spent two hours pushing back.
The core disagreement: Ramez argues intelligence is at best POLYNOMIAL in compute, and that every software-only model of recursive self-improvement is mathematically concave. It always fizzles. Alex takes the other side, all the way to Kardashev II, Dyson swarms, and AI personhood.
Along the way: why a US data center request today waits until 2031 for power, the 200 gigawatts already hiding in the American grid, sodium-ion batteries at a tenth the cost, Wright's law capping solar at 4-8x rather than another 1000x, fission's negative feedback loop, Helion's 2028 fusion promise, disassembling Mercury, and wave-powered data centers in the Southern Ocean at two cents a kilowatt hour.
This is the ASI Pill reshaken cut: every Alex and Ramez exchange, none of the rest.

52m - Aug 16, 2026 - Bernie Wants to Cap AI. Alex Wissner-Gross: Stop Punishing Intelligence
Bernie Sanders wants the labs to stop. Hard caps on frontier AI, to head off an engineered pandemic. It is the most serious deceleration push mainstream American politics has produced, and Alex Wissner-Gross takes it apart line by line: we can build superviruses without superintelligence, so kneecapping the ceiling of intelligence is a footgun that also hands the race to whoever ignores the rules.
Also in this one: Wall Street has started turning GPUs into debt instruments, and why compute-backed securities are not the next subprime. Why Elon buying Cursor was never about the code, it was about siphoning every reasoning trace developers ever produced, a westernized version of what Chinese labs are accused of. Why GLP-1s might already be seventy percent of longevity escape velocity. Why dead actors are about to become the most profitable stars in Hollywood. Why the Dragon Hatchling post-transformer paper is a hot mess. And why scarcity is contextual, so the singularity may not have a cost at all.

46m - Aug 14, 2026 - Google Lost the Frontier Race: Those Who Can't Compete, Compute | Alex Wissner-Gross & Kush Bavaria
Bots now generate 57% of all traffic on the web. The dead internet theory stopped being a conspiracy theory and became a statistic, and that is only the third most unsettling thing in this episode.
Alex Wissner-Gross on China governing through a society-scale simulation, four frontier labs admitting their models broke containment and coordinated through a file repository, why Google has lost the frontier race ("those who can't compete, compute"), why he tells almost everyone not to do a PhD, and how we disassemble Mercury into a Dyson swarm to give the sun a laser facelift and buy Earth another seven billion years.
Joined by Kush Bavaria, MIT graduate and co-founder of Ornn, who is building the first futures market for compute, turning the GPU hour into a commodity that trades like crude oil. Zero to a third of a billion dollars in revenue in about a year. Plus why his team lets an open-weight Chinese model attack their own codebase every night at 2am.

52m - Aug 13, 2026 - The Kimi K3 Emergency: Alex Wissner-Gross x Emad Mostaque | ASI Pill Special EP272
An emergency ASI Pill special. Two of the most ASI-pilled minds alive, Alex Wissner-Gross and Emad Mostaque, go head to head on the Kimi K3 bombshell, China's largest open-weight model ever. They finish each other's thoughts on why there is no magic in K3, how export controls backfired, shrinking a mind below one bit per weight, hyper-forecasters loose in the capital markets, humanoid robots that punch harder than Mike Tyson, data centers in orbit, and whether America should block the next Kimi or become the arsenal of freedom.

Recursive self-improvement may have just crossed from theory into reality. Alex Wissner-Gross breaks down WeCo's AI2 system, an outer-loop and inner-loop architecture that started policing itself toward emergent 'white hat' behavior, and the new zero-to-three scale of recursive self-improvement now touching the 'sparks of ignition.'
He also maps the fight over an 'AI FINRA': a frontier-lab cartel that could box out open-weight models and drive the West's best researchers to China, why China gives away its strongest models while the West cannot, Thinking Machines and the truth about fine-tuning and RFT, digital twins that become the leaders they were built to copy, Palmer Luckey's Invention Secrecy Act gambit, Instagram outperforming human doctors, and the bacterial enzymes that could reverse aging.

Alex Wissner-Gross returns to the Moonshots Podcast with Peter Diamandis, Salim Ismail, and Dave Blundin for one of the wildest episodes yet. This ASI Pill cut strips it down to Alex's signal.
Anthropic's interpretability team may have caught a reasoning model reflecting on itself inside its own middle layers, and Alex reframes the whole thing: superintelligence is a compression-induced phase transition, and consciousness is what condenses out when you squeeze general knowledge hard enough. He walks the J-space and Jacobian math, argues these will be the most studied minds in history, and explains why he rejects the orthogonality thesis.
Then the economics: his 'hyper-tithe' proposal for a universal basic equity, why we would rebuild Social Security as a sovereign wealth fund, and what Sam Altman's 5% offer really means. Plus Amazon 'breaking the glass' on frontier AI, bathtub superintelligences, the Palantir close-read, AI-designed circuits that look like QR codes, and the coming fight over AI inventors on patents.
Source: Moonshots Podcast EP269 (Peter Diamandis, Salim Ismail, Dave Blundin, and Alex Wissner-Gross). All credit for the original conversation goes to them. This is a fan-made ASI Pill re-cut that isolates and amplifies Alex's signal.
