Is God Telling You to Step Forward Now?
20m | Jul 24, 2026Is God telling you to step forward now?
Today’s devotion from Joshua 1:1–18 reminds us that there comes a time when God calls His people to arise, go, and move forward into a new season with courage. Moses had died, Joshua was now called to lead, and Israel was standing at the edge of the Jordan River, preparing to enter the land God had promised.
This message is for anyone facing transition, responsibility, uncertainty, loss, leadership change, or a new beginning. God’s command to Joshua was clear: “Be strong and of good courage.” But that courage was not based on Joshua’s strength — it was based on God’s promise: “I will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Joshua 1 teaches us that faith does not remain stuck in yesterday’s season. Faith honors the past, listens to God’s Word, prepares for the future, and steps forward in obedience. The promise was already given, but Joshua still had to cross the Jordan.
This chapter also reminds us that true success comes from meditating on God’s Word day and night and obeying what He has spoken. Courage without obedience becomes self-confidence, but courage rooted in God’s Word becomes faithfulness.
Ultimately, Joshua points us to Jesus Christ, the perfect Leader who has gone before us, conquered sin and death, and now leads His people into eternal rest. Because He is with us, we can face every new season with courage and hope.
