What if God has already given you something—but you have been waiting instead of stepping forward to possess it?

In Joshua 18, Israel had already experienced extraordinary victories. The land had been subdued, and the tabernacle had been established at Shiloh. Yet seven tribes still had not received their inheritance.

Then Joshua asked a challenging question:

“How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers has given you?” — Joshua 18:3

Notice the wording: God had already given them the land.

The problem was no longer whether God would fulfill His promise.

The question was whether His people would act on it.

Joshua commanded representatives from the tribes to rise, walk through the land, survey it carefully, and return to Shiloh. They had to move—but the final outcome remained in God’s hands.

This gives us a powerful pattern:

Seek God. Get up. Survey what is before you. Take faithful action. Trust God with the result.

Shiloh is especially significant because God’s tabernacle stood there. Before Israel moved into its remaining inheritance, God’s presence was placed at the center.

That principle still matters.

Before pursuing the career, ministry, relationship, business opportunity, family decision, or calling before us, we need God’s presence at the center.

Perhaps there is something you have been postponing because you feel unprepared.

Maybe God has been calling you to:

• restore a relationship

• begin something He placed on your heart

• use a gift you have neglected

• step into a new opportunity

• serve someone

• overcome a spiritual habit

• move beyond fear

• trust Him with your future

Joshua’s question reaches across the centuries:

HOW LONG WILL YOU WAIT?

Faith is not merely believing that God has a plan.

Sometimes faith means getting up and walking into it.

What do you do when God gives you an inheritance—but the territory still contains forests, giants, fortified cities, and iron chariots?

Joshua 17 shows us that receiving God’s promise does not mean we will never face resistance. Manasseh received a real inheritance, but much of it still had to be possessed through courage, obedience, and trust.

The chapter also gives us the inspiring example of the daughters of Zelophehad. They remembered what God had promised, came forward boldly, and received the inheritance that belonged to their family.

Then Ephraim and Manasseh complained that their portion was too small.

Joshua’s response was striking:

“If you are a great people… go up to the forest country and clear a place for yourself.”

And when they pointed to the Canaanites’ iron chariots, Joshua answered:

“The mountain country shall be yours… for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots and are strong.”

Today’s devotional asks us some important questions:

Are you focusing on the promise—or the chariots?

Are you asking God for more while neglecting the territory He has already placed in your hands?

Have you settled for partial obedience because completely removing something would be difficult?

And are there “forests” in your life that God is asking you to clear before you can enjoy greater fruitfulness?

Your inheritance in Christ includes forgiveness, adoption, purpose, the Holy Spirit, spiritual strength, and eternal hope. Yet God still calls us to actively walk in what He has given.

What should you do when the obstacle before you looks impossible—and God’s instructions do not seem to make sense?

In Joshua 6:1–27, Jericho was securely closed, heavily fortified, and impossible to conquer through ordinary human strength. Yet God had already declared, “I have given Jericho into your hand.” The victory was promised before the walls ever moved.

Instead of giving Joshua a conventional military strategy, God commanded Israel to march around the city in silence for six days. On the seventh day, they marched seven times, the priests sounded the trumpets, the people shouted, and the walls collapsed.

This devotional reveals why God often calls us to:

• obey before we understand

Can God use someone with a broken past?

Today’s devotion from Joshua 2:1–24 tells the powerful story of Rahab, a woman in Jericho whose faith changed the future of her family and placed her in the family line of Jesus Christ.

Rahab lived in a city marked for judgment, yet she heard about the mighty works of the Lord and believed. While others in Jericho were filled with fear, Rahab responded with faith. She hid the Israelite spies, risked her life, and declared, “The Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.”

Her faith was not just words. It moved her to action. She protected the spies, asked for mercy for her family, and tied the scarlet cord in her window as the sign of deliverance. Have you forgotten who holds your life together?

Today’s devotion from Psalm 104:1–35 reminds us that God is the great and loving Gardener — the Creator, Provider, Sustainer, and Renewing Lord over all creation.

Psalm 104 begins and ends with the words, “Bless the Lord, O my soul!” The psalmist calls his own heart to worship as he looks at the majesty of God revealed through light, clouds, wind, water, mountains, valleys, animals, trees, seasons, oceans, and every living thing.

This message reminds us that God is not distant from His creation. He sends springs into the valleys, gives drink to the animals, provides homes for the birds, waters the hills, causes grass and vegetation to grow, and opens His hand so that living things are filled with good.

Psalm 104 also teaches us that every creature depends completely on God. Our breath, food, work, strength, family, community, and daily provision are all gifts from His loving hand. Life is not held together by luck, chance, or human strength. It is sustained by the Lord who made all things in wisdom.

Is God telling you to step forward now?

Today’s devotion from Joshua 1:1–18 reminds us that there comes a time when God calls His people to arise, go, and move forward into a new season with courage. Moses had died, Joshua was now called to lead, and Israel was standing at the edge of the Jordan River, preparing to enter the land God had promised.

What if you don’t see the promise yet?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 34:1–12 brings us to the moving final chapter of Moses’ life. After forty years of leading Israel through the wilderness, Moses climbs Mount Nebo and sees the Promised Land from a distance. God shows him the inheritance promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob — yet Moses does not cross over.

This message reminds us that faithfulness is not measured only by what we personally receive, but by whether we trust God’s promises beyond what we can see. Moses finished his race in obedience, even though the fullness of the promise would be carried forward through Joshua.

Deuteronomy 34 teaches us that God’s plans are bigger than one person, one season, or one lifetime. Sometimes we plant what others will harvest. Sometimes we prepare the way for the next generation. Sometimes we see the promise from afar and trust God to fulfill it after our part is complete.

This chapter also points us to Jesus Christ, the greater Prophet and perfect Leader. Moses could lead Israel toward the land, but Jesus brings His people into the eternal promise of salvation, forgiveness, rest, and life with God forever.

Where do you find strength when you feel weak?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 33:1–29 reminds us that God is the One who blesses His people with strength, provision, safety, purpose, and His unfailing presence.

As Moses approached the end of his life, he gathered the tribes of Israel and spoke blessing over them. Each tribe received a unique word, reminding us that God knows His people personally. He knows our calling, our needs, our weaknesses, our responsibilities, and the grace required for every season.

This chapter gives one of the most comforting promises in Scripture: “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” When we are weak, He upholds us. When we stumble, He carries us. When we face uncertainty, He shelters us. When everything around us changes, He remains our refuge.

Deuteronomy 33 also points us to Jesus Christ, the full revelation of God’s blessing. He is our King, our High Priest, our Refuge, our living water, our true manna, and the One who will never leave nor forsake His people. Through His death and resurrection, we receive the greatest blessing of all: belonging to God forever.

What remains when everything else fails?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 32:1–51 reminds us that God is the Rock — perfect in His work, just in His ways, faithful in His love, and unchanging in His character.

Moses’ song calls heaven and earth to listen as he proclaims the greatness of the Lord. Before Israel’s failure is exposed, God’s character is exalted: “He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice.”

This message reminds us that human hearts may drift, blessings may be forgotten, leaders may pass away, strength may fail, and false foundations may collapse — but God remains steadfast. He found His people in the wilderness, carried them like an eagle, protected them as the apple of His eye, and faithfully led them by His grace.

Deuteronomy 32 also warns us about spiritual forgetfulness. When comfort replaces gratitude and prosperity replaces dependence, the heart can slowly drift from the Rock of salvation. Yet even in discipline, God’s purpose is restoration. He exposes false foundations so we may return to the only One who can truly sustain us.

This chapter ultimately points us to Jesus Christ, the Rock of our salvation. In Him, God’s justice and mercy meet perfectly. Through His death and resurrection, wandering hearts can return to God and find forgiveness, life, and an unshakable foundation.

Are you afraid of what comes next?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 31:1–30 reminds us that God goes before His people and stays with them through every season of transition. Moses was nearing the end of his earthly ministry, Joshua was being prepared to lead, and Israel was about to cross the Jordan into an unknown future.

Humanly speaking, this was a moment filled with uncertainty. But Moses pointed the people away from fear and toward the unchanging faithfulness of God: “Be strong and of good courage… for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

This message speaks to every believer facing change, responsibility, loss, uncertainty, new beginnings, or difficult decisions. Your confidence is not in your ability to control tomorrow, but in the God who already holds tomorrow in His hands.

Deuteronomy 31 also points us to Jesus Christ, who has gone before us through suffering, death, and resurrection. Because He has conquered sin and death, no road His people walk is ever walked alone. Through the Holy Spirit, Christ remains with us always, even to the end of the age.

Is God calling you to come back home?

Today’s devotion from Deuteronomy 30:1–20 is a powerful message of hope, restoration, and mercy. After the blessings and warnings of the covenant, Moses reminds Israel that even if they fail, wander, and are scattered among the nations, the Lord still provides a way back.

God’s heart is not merely to discipline His people, but to restore them. He promises to gather them, bring them back, have compassion on them, and transform their hearts so they may love Him with all their heart and soul.

This chapter reminds us that no one is too far from God’s mercy. There is no distance too great for His grace, no failure too deep for His forgiveness, and no wandering heart beyond His loving call to return.

Deuteronomy 30 also points us to Jesus Christ, who is Life Himself. Through His death and resurrection, we receive forgiveness, a new heart, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and eternal life. God does not simply command us to choose life — He offers us life through Christ.
