Fresh off their sourcing trip to Rwanda, Jo and Fleur sat down to talk about what they learned on the road and what makes Rwanda such a special place to visit and buy coffee from. The duo had plenty of insights to share, from the growth experienced by both cooperatives MCM works with, to the youth-focused projects and processing innovations propelling Rwanda's coffee industry into the future.

This month, we reached out to our good friend and longtime Guatemalan export partner Eduardo Ambrocio, the founder and director of Prisma Coffee Origins. Eduardo is one of the most experienced coffee professionals we know, having spent two decades as part of national coffee body Anacafé's QC team, where he developed strong relationships with people who have since become some of Guatemala's most celebrated producers and cooperatives.⁠

This year marks a decade since we began sourcing coffee from our good friend Fabiano Borré with the help of export partner and mentor Silvio Leite. This month, Fleur and Rafa spoke to Santa Clara Estate’s Bel Zelaya, who spearheads the family’s scholarship program with sister Katia. Since 2011, the initiative has supported 77 children of the farm’s staff in accessing greater educational opportunities, prioritising girls and young women who would otherwise miss out on going to school.

During our chat, we learned more about how the program works and how to get involved — while Fleur also gave us insights into what we can expect from our forthcoming Guatemalan offerings.
