Ramsay Short & Beirut
Anthony Bourdain had the ability to tell broader stories about a country’s history and culture through focusing on its food. Bourdain was particularly impacted by the Middle East, leading him to tell stories of the region that went beyond the picture painted by daily news cycles. It was the Lebanese capital of Beirut that appeared to make a particular mark on him during his travels. Journalist Ramsay Short was one of the most frequent Bourdain guests, appearing on two episodes of No Reservations (2006 and 2010) and one episode of Parts Unknown (2015). In this episode, Short reflects on Bourdain’s early travels to Beirut during the 2006 Lebanon War and how their friendship spanned decades later.
