- Harley Flanagan & Lower East Side
During his early years in New York, Anthony Bourdain frequently visited Manhattan’s Lower East Side. In fact, it was featured in the final episode of CNN's Parts Unknown, filmed in April 2018, just two months before he died in a hotel in France. There is no better person to understand Bourdain's history with the Lower East Side than Harley Flanagan, founder of Cro-Mags, the legendary New York hardcore punk band, and author of "Hard-Core: Life of My Own.” Flanagan reflects on the many parallels he shared with Bourdain from their individual experiences in New York City during the 1970s as artists (Bourdain, the storyteller; Flanagan, the musician) to their challenges with drug addictions and how they channeled their unmistakable energy into Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

40m | Mar 15, 2023 - Margo Price & Nashville
Anthony Bourdain was long admired for traveling to a new place without any preconceptions. Nashville was among the great destinations in which he aimed to dispel all stereotypes – from its people, history, food and culture – until he experienced it for himself. Margo Price, the celebrated singer/songwriter, was featured on the 2016 Nashville episode of Parts Unknown. She reflects on her friendship with Anthony Bourdain, hosting him at her home for a dinner party, the advice he shared with her on fame, and mental health awareness.

37m | Mar 1, 2023 - Zamir Gotta & Russia
Anthony Bourdain understood that food is political, and his travels were often prescient of cultural events, but perhaps none more than Russia. From A Cook’s Tour until Parts Unknown, Zamir Gotta was always by his side in Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Romania, Georgia, and more. A Russian TV producer, Bourdain coined him an “international man of mystery” as he was viewed as the “fixer,” planning many of Bourdain’s escapades over the years.

49m | Feb 22, 2023 - Ramsay Short & Beirut
Anthony Bourdain had the ability to tell broader stories about a country’s history and culture through focusing on its food. Bourdain was particularly impacted by the Middle East, leading him to tell stories of the region that went beyond the picture painted by daily news cycles. It was the Lebanese capital of Beirut that appeared to make a particular mark on him during his travels. Journalist Ramsay Short was one of the most frequent Bourdain guests, appearing on two episodes of No Reservations (2006 and 2010) and one episode of Parts Unknown (2015). In this episode, Short reflects on Bourdain’s early travels to Beirut during the 2006 Lebanon War and how their friendship spanned decades later.
