  • Invisible Disabilities & Diagnosis Difficulties

    In this week’s episode we are joined by our lovely member Grace who is a first year social sciences student. Aurora and Kayleigh have a chat with Grace about invisible disabilities and the difficulties in obtaining a diagnosis. The triple D title is inspired by Grace who likes to joke that she got 3 for 2 on learning difficulties in having dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia. Aurora also chats about her recent ADHD diagnosis and the barriers she found within healthcare.

  • Disability Representation, Activism & ‘Inspiration Porn’ (featuring Ellen Blunsdon)

    In this episode Ellen Blunsdon joins two members of our exec to discuss disability activism as students, disability representation, and inspiration porn. Massive thank you to Callum for interviewing and letting Ellen and Kayleigh get all their feelings out! Ellen is a former student of Edinburgh University, and was their Disabled Students Officer in 2019/2020. She is now the Students with Disabilities Officer at the University of Law which she is currently studying remotely. Kayleigh O’Neill is on the FemSoc committee, is a recent graduate of Edinburgh Napier University and was their Equality & Diversity Officer in 2019/2020.

  • Virginity as a social construct

    Today we are talking about the construct of virginity and how it works in favour of the patriarchy by commodifying women as something to be won or conquered and shaming men who haven’t slept with a woman yet. The idea of virginity as something women can ‘lose’ to or that can be ‘taken’ by men has proven to be a problematic concept beyond the physical myths, which takes the power away from women and denies the existence of non-heterosexual bodies and experiences.
