• The Foolish Will Turn On You: Proverbs 1:17-19

Dad, does your child understand that hidden sin doesn't just hurt them, it can destroy everyone around them? In this episode Isaac breaks down Proverbs 1:17-19 and gives fathers a way to teach their kids why secret sin is more dangerous than it looks.

Isaac starts with the picture in verse 17, a bird that won't fly into a net it can see, and contrasts that with the fools in verse 18 who unknowingly set an ambush for their own lives. He explains how foolishness clouds people's ability to see clearly, so much that they end up less perceptive than a bird, and walks through what's actually missing in that picture: a relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. This gives dads a clear way to help their kids understand that sin doesn't just fail to satisfy, it actively blinds and harms the person chasing it.

Isaac also unpacks verse 19's warning about greed, "such are the ways of everyone who is greedy for unjust gain; it takes away the life of its possessors." He shows how greed destroys people from the inside out, while generosity brings real freedom, giving fathers a simple, practical question to ask their kids: how does it feel to give someone something that helps them?

He closes by pointing back to Courageous Parenting Episode 8 on preparing your family for the AI era: why critical thinking has to be deliberately taught rather than assumed, why deep trust in God and Scripture is the real safeguard against cultural drift, and a four-part framework, Learn, Think, Discern, Teach, for helping kids engage contested issues with a biblical foundation.

  • What is Peer Pressure: Proverbs 1:10-14

Dad, are your children equipped to stand strong against peer pressure? In this episode Isaac digs into Proverbs 1:10-14 and shows fathers how to teach their kids what it looks like when sinners entice, and why refusing to consent to that pull is one of the most important lessons we can pass on to them.

Solomon paints a vivid picture here: enticers inviting a young man to ambush the innocent, to swallow up others "like Sheol," a direct echo of Numbers 16:32 and the rebellion of Korah against Moses and Aaron, ultimately against God himself. Isaac talks about how this same pattern shows up in smaller, everyday forms of disobedience in our kids, and gives dads a way to help their children see how those small compromises, left unchecked, form bad character over time. Who your child spends time with will shape them, and that's a conversation worth having early and often.

Isaac also digs into verses 13 and 14, where entitlement dresses itself up as friendship: "we shall fill our houses with plunder... we will all have one purse." That's the lie that other people's things are ours for the taking, versus the truth that hard work and trust in God's provision build real character. Use this passage to talk with your kids about how they treat things they've worked for versus things given to them for free, and about loving people rather than using them for personal gain.

He closes with a reminder fathers can pass on to their children, that when peer pressure hits, they don't have to face it alone. He also points back to Episode 6 on implementing your family culture: consistent communication, getting your wife aligned as a team, launching your family's culture statement deliberately, and living out what you want your kids to become, since real change is a flywheel, not a light switch.

  • How to Resist Peer Pressure: Proverbs 1:15-16

Dad, is your child equipped to walk away when bad influences come calling? In this episode Isaac breaks down Proverbs 1:15-16 and shows fathers how to teach their kids why God calls us to hold our foot back from the paths of those who entice us into sin.

Isaac explains how a strong identity in Christ gives our kids the strength to flee the wayward, even when it feels lonely to walk away, and why who they associate with shapes who they become since reputation is worth far more than riches. He walks through how sin gets normalized in small, everyday ways, filthy language, disobedience to parents, and what our kids consume through media, and gives fathers a framework for helping their children see why those enticements are ultimately in vain, because the natural human condition is bent toward evil, not away from it.

Isaac reminds dads that our family's mission is to glorify God with our lives, and that teaching our kids to live differently than the crowd means preparing them to upset people who want them to join in. Use this passage as a starting point for a conversation with your kids about the difference between what's normal and what's right, and about guarding their walk by guarding their friendships.

He also points back to Episode 7 on visioneering with your wife: assessing the current state of your marriage, family, and mission before dreaming ahead, initiating the conversation together rather than deciding alone, and building trust by following through on what you commit to.

  • Why You Should Listen to Your Parents: Proverbs 1:8-9

Dad, are you actively shaping your family's culture, or letting busyness leave it to drift? In this episode we dig into Proverbs 1:8-9 and unpack what it means for our kids to hear their father's instruction and not forsake their mother's teaching, and why that's a passage worth teaching your family, not just reading on your own.

We break down two key Hebrew words: musar (the sharp, corrective discipline that shapes character) and torah (the fuller body of accumulated wisdom passed down in a home). As fathers, God has given us the job of correcting and teaching our kids. Their job is to obey with a good heart, and when we help them see that obeying us is training for obeying God, we're pointing them toward something far bigger than household rules.

We also unpack verse 9's picture of a garland and pendant, a beautiful, strengthening image you can use to show your kids that obedience isn't a burden, it's a gift that sets them up to win in life.

Use this episode as a launching point for a family discussion or devotional time. We also reference our episode on crafting your family culture plan, a simple exercise to identify your family's strengths and weaknesses and turn them into short, memorable phrases your family can actually live by.

  • The Home Discipleship Plan: Proverbs 1:1-7

Here’s how to teach the beginning of proverbs to your family with a step by step approach. Tune in for 20 minutes a day and then engage your family with scripture.

Here are key points covered for Proverbs 1:1-7

    • Two audiences in Proverbs: the naive and the wise. There's no neutral destination, you're heading one way or the other.
    • Wisdom vs. instruction: wisdom is the best thinking and strategy anchored in biblical truth; instruction is how you actually implement it.
    • Wise dealing, righteousness, justice, and equity, what each looks like practically, including whether you're being fair with your own siblings or kids.
    • Prudence for the simple and discretion for the youth, and why "simple" really means naive, not unintelligent.
    • The fear of the Lord as the beginning of knowledge, and why fools despise wisdom (often just self preservation or peer pressure).

As always, at the end you will get a Resolute Man encouragement as well, this one comes from the fourth episode from this show titled “Spiritual Leadership Simplified”:

Spiritual leadership isn't complicated. If you feel inadequate compared to your wife's spiritual strength, that feeling doesn't disqualify you, it's addressed head on this episode.

  • Introducing Proverbs to Your Family

King Solomon, son of King David, wrote much of Proverbs, and his story is a powerful one to walk your children through.

Start by asking them: what would you ask for if God offered you anything? At Gibeon, God asked Solomon exactly that. Instead of long life, riches, or victory over his enemies, Solomon asked for wisdom to govern well and discern good from evil. Show your kids how God was pleased with that request and gave Solomon wisdom beyond anyone before or after him, plus wealth and honor he never even asked for. It's a great chance to teach them that God honors those who ask for wisdom over selfish gain.

Solomon walked with God, then strayed into worldliness, and Ecclesiastes captures the lesson worth passing on to your children. The words of the wise are goads, pointed sticks that prod us forward even when wisdom is uncomfortable, and nails, anchors that hold things together and drive truth deep into us. Teach them the takeaway is simple: fear God and keep His commandments, that's the whole duty of man.

Bring Solomon's accomplishments into the conversation too. He wrote over a thousand songs, authored three books of the Bible, built the first temple in Jerusalem, built cities and a fleet of ships, hosted rulers from around the world who came to learn from him, and was likely the richest man who ever lived, all while keeping peace as king. Let your kids see what a life devoted to wisdom can produce.

Help your children understand that Proverbs is pure, trustworthy wisdom, not because Solomon was perfect (he wasn't, any more than you or I), but because a perfect God used an imperfect man. That same God wants to use them too. Walk through what it looks like as a family to pursue wisdom, fear God, and obey Him, and let your kids wrestle with what God's wisdom looks like next to the world's.

We also revisit the Resolute Men Encouragement from Episode 03, "Accelerating Change Requires Decisiveness," a lesson worth modeling for your children as much as living out yourself. Passivity and indecision are being weaponized against men, and the normal cycle looks the same every time: warning signs get ignored, the problem escalates and causes real pain, and the non-decision ends up controlling your circumstances anyway. We cover two of the five steps toward becoming decisive, why small daily decisions matter as much as the big ones, and the payoff: becoming someone your family can rely on and a source of safety for those around you.

  • How to Lead Family Devotions (Without Overcomplicating It)

You are needed more than ever. The Bible is the Sword of the Spirit, and this episode tackles the mental hurdles that keep dads from teaching it well in their own home.

In this episode, Isaac digs in deeper into a simple framework he uses for family Bible time from the acronym P.R.A.Y. from the Courageous Parenting book.

Promote it. Talk about what you read yesterday and build real confidence that no other wisdom compares to Scripture.

    Read and teach it.

Ask about it. Ask questions, ask what a word means, and encourage dialogue.

Yearn for it. Wield the sword of truth well, memorize Scripture, and become the man with real biblical answers.

We also revisit the Resolute Men Encouragement from Episode 02, "The Art of Clear Thinking." Most people don't actually think well, they just think a lot. We break down three levels of thinking: reproductive (improving on what already exists), productive (thinking anew, going beyond convention), and Spirit led productive thinking (submitting that creativity to the Holy Spirit's guidance, per Romans 12:2). The call is to become men who discern truth clearly and actually act on it, especially as deception and rapid change increase around us.

  • The Home Discipleship Plan Through Proverbs

Your kids are growing up in an unbelief epidemic, and you can't save them, but you can disciple them. In this first episode of a new series inside the Resolute Man Podcast, I lay out why fatherhood today is unprecedented (juggling multiple income sources, an accelerating pace of change, a culture that's beating down masculinity) and why home discipleship matters more than ever.

I introduce the plan: a daily, Monday through Thursday walk through Proverbs, giving you practical tips and clear teaching on small sections of Scripture your family can actually use, plus a father in unprecedented times tip at the end of each episode.

You'll also get the simple formula for teaching your family: Promote, Read, Ask, Yearn. It's built to be practical, not just inspirational, so you can actually do it with your kids this week.

A raw episode with Isaac Tolpin sharing how he’s dealing with the recent attacks on him physically that he’s still healing from with encouragement for all. The enemy wants you destroyed, and the more you’re obedient to Christ, the more you grow the target on your back. Is that a reason to be disobedient to God? Of course not, as the real joy of life comes when you're on the paths in alignment with His Will for you. More importantly, the spiritual fruit in yourself and potentially others, too because you're willing to do what’s best, even when it’s hard.

  • The Transparent Warrior

What’s counter-intuitive is often better than our regular mode of being as a man. When it comes to how we interact with each other, transparency helps us develop stronger relationships with each other. Transparency breads transparency, meaning when your guard goes down others drop as well. We need to let our guards down with the right people so we can better run the race together. The last thing you’d think of in a warrior is transparency, but again, let’s be counter-intuitive and be Transparent Warriors. It helps relationships, gives courage to others, and creates stronger bonds together.

We are living in unprecedented times that require men to step out and stand for truth. Are you ready for what’s coming? The next four - six months are likely to be interesting in the world with the United States Presidential election upon us. The spiritual battle is out in the open so it’s vital we walk in wisdom. Isaac shares areas to BE WATCHFUL and the importance to STAND FIRM IN THE FAITH in all areas of our lives with a challenge about persecution. It’s also vital to ACT LIKE MEN in a time where so many aren’t as our communities need it. How vital it is to BE STRONG but not just physically but other vital areas as well. This is from one of Isaac’s favorite Bible verses found at 1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” Of course the next verse is vital too and makes it all work which says “Let all that you do be done in love.”
