For more than 20 years, Journey Home has brought arts programming to women in Estrella Jail. This podcast follows women before, during and after prison. Our intent is to sensitize our audience to the plight of women who were incarcerated and shift the stereotypical narrative.
These women are mothers, daughters, grandmothers, professional, blue collar workers and some have disabilities. Way too often they’re ostracized, stigmatized and penalized long after they serve their time. These are their stories.
About ASU Gammage's Journey Home program at Estrella Jail
Journey Home is an intensive four-week program for women incarcerated at the Maricopa County Estrella Jail. Through creative writing, expressive movement, storytelling, and visual arts, the ASU Gammage program is designed to raise the awareness and consciousness of the women so they feel empowered to create a different life for themselves in the future. The program has been on hold since the pandemic, and is returning in 2024 for in-person work.
