Legend of the Guardians was a movie with maybe one of the longest titles of all time. I&#39;m not even going to write it out in this description because it would make it too long; SEO be damned. This week on The Other Half, we’re closing out our annual Canada Month series with our wonderful friend Madison to tackle 2013&#39;s Dallas Buyers Club. A movie that qualifies for our Canadian theme solely because its late, great director, Jean-Marc Vallée, came from Quebec!

Join us as we break down a movie that starts with Matthew McConaughey watching bull riding during a rodeo hookup(?!), collapsing into a pile of nudie magazines, and reacting to a 30-day terminal AIDS diagnosis by immediately doing lines of coke and drinking whiskey in the dark. The movie plays with memory, time and audience perspective an a refreshing and controlled way. This movie blew up on Letterboxed in a big way and it&#39;s Canadian, so it felt like a good chance of pace from the previous films we did.The movie is about a Hungarian immigrant family with the POV being 8-year-old Sasha and her adult self reflecting on those memories. We close out Steven Stinkers with one of his latest stinkers, the BFG. Now we want to mention that The BFG is a silly name. Because compared to other giants, he&#39;s actually pretty small. Should be called the LFG to be honest. But that&#39;s just a wittle twingy twanger that bothers us. Mark Rylance stars as the BFG and despite being a character that&#39;s fully CGI, he does a great performance. That can be attributed to the special effects presented in the movie. The main character, Sophie, goes to giant land and the practical effects mixed with the CGI result in some dazzling scenes. Not enough to dazzle audiences though as this is still a Steven Stinker.Also Roald Dahl, really loves using silly little idioms, which makes those whole movie just seem a bit silly. YES WE KNOW IT&#39;S FOR KIDS.
