Lindsay Clancy - The Lindsay Clancy Trial Ended Without a Verdict

5m | Oct 11, 2026

On January 24, 2023, Lindsay Clancy strangled her three children in their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, then jumped from a second-floor window. She was a labour and delivery nurse. She had been hospitalised for psychiatric treatment nineteen days earlier. In the weeks before the killings, she had been prescribed more than 30 medications across 13 different drugs as doctors tried to manage a postpartum psychiatric crisis that was escalating faster than anyone recognised.

Her defence team argued postpartum psychosis — a rare but documented condition that can cause hallucinations, delusional thinking, and a complete break from reality. Lindsay said she heard a male voice commanding her to act, that she believed she was saving her children from a worse fate. The prosecution argued she knew exactly what she was doing and that the insanity defence was a strategy, not a diagnosis.

After nearly six weeks of testimony and seven days of jury deliberation, the verdict never came. On September 4, 2026, the judge declared a mistrial. Three children are dead. Their mother has admitted she killed them. The legal system produced no answer. This episode covers everything — the timeline, the psychiatric evidence, the competing expert testimony, and why twelve people couldn’t agree on what happened inside Lindsay Clancy’s mind.
