This week, Bri & Alli dive into The Ersatz Elevator, comparing Lemony Snicket’s grim, darkly comedic novel with its visually striking, delightfully theatrical Netflix series adaptation. Set inside the ridiculously trendy penthouse at 667 Dark Avenue, the story follows the Baudelaire orphans as they navigate endlessly dark hallways, obsession with "in" and "out" trends, and Count Olaf’s latest scheme fraught with terrible disguises, sinister agendas, and a dangerously empty elevator shaft. 

 

Synopsis: 

The Baudelaire orphans are sent to live with a wealthy couple in a strange city where 

they discover a mysterious vacant penthouse and a secret elevator that leads them into 

another layer of danger. As Count Olaf reappears with yet another disguise, the children 

become entangled in a scheme involving stolen fortunes and hidden identities. 

Navigating deception at every turn, they must uncover the truth before Olaf’s plan 

reaches its final stage.
