Her Fiancé Reported Her Missing.. 13 Years Later, He Admitted Causing Her Death - KATELYN MARKHAM

Katelyn Markham, a 21-year-old graphic arts student from Fairfield, Ohio, vanished from her home in August 2011. Her fiancé, John Carter, reported her missing and joined searches for her, but nearly two years later, Katelyn’s remains were discovered in rural Indiana.

The case remained unsolved for more than a decade as investigators examined inconsistencies in Carter’s story, forensic evidence and disturbing writings recovered from his former home. In 2023, Carter was finally indicted for murder. Rather than face trial, Carter pleaded guilty in June 2024 to involuntary manslaughter, admitting that Katelyn died as a result of an assault he committed. He received the maximum three-year prison sentence. Yet Carter has never publicly explained exactly what happened to Katelyn, how she died, or how her remains ended up 30 miles away in Indiana.
