The Black Heart: Newfoundland's Forbidden Books
For generations, communities throughout Newfoundland whispered about mysterious books believed to contain forbidden knowledge and supernatural power.Known as the Black Heart, these books were said to summon demonic imps, cast curses, conjure impossible visions, and grant extraordinary abilities. But possessing one allegedly came with a terrible price—and getting rid of it might be impossible. This week, Holosky explores the disturbing folklore documented by researcher Barbara Rieti, including strange encounters, books that refused to burn, and the chilling account of a man who supposedly purchased one for his soul and a penny. Were these books powerful grimoires, misunderstood works of stage magic, or something far more sinister?
Stay Safe • Stay Weird.
Facebook and Twitter @holoskypodcastInstagram @ theholoskypodcast If you have an experience of your own you'd like to share with us please do.
Project Grudge: File 13
In 1956, an American serviceman allegedly vanished during a routine assignment at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. What supposedly happened to Sergeant Jonathan Lovette would become one of the most disturbing stories in UFO lore.According to the account, his disappearance involved a mysterious craft, a mechanical appendage, and a horrifying discovery that raised questions about extraterrestrial abduction and human mutilation. This week, Holosky explores the chilling legend of Project Grudge's File 13, the testimony surrounding the alleged incident, and the mystery of a military document whose existence remains unverified.Stay Safe • Stay Weird. Facebook and Twitter @holoskypodcastInstagram @ theholoskypodcast If you have an experience of your own you'd like to share with us please do.
West Virginia White Things
Deep in the Appalachian Mountains, something strange has been haunting the forests of West Virginia for generations. From ghostly white dogs and mysterious creatures stalking rural roads to towering, horned beasts resembling the infamous Sheep Squatch, witnesses have described encounters with something that seems to change with time. But what if these aren't entirely different creatures? What if the legends themselves are evolving, taking on new forms as our fears and beliefs change? This week, Holosky explores the history of West Virginia's White Things, their possible connections to death omens and Appalachian folklore, and the unsettling idea that something ancient might be adapting to the world around it.Stay Safe • Stay Weird.Facebook and Twitter @holoskypodcastInstagram @ theholoskypodcast If you have an experience of your own you'd like to share with us please do.
The Fourth Wall: Fiction in Real Life
What if the fourth wall isn’t just a storytelling device?Across decades, people have reported encounters with figures that seem impossible—characters resembling superheroes, cartoon icons, movie villains, and other creations that supposedly exist only in fiction. Even stranger, some writers have claimed to encounter characters they helped create. Pasted markdownFrom alleged sightings of John Constantine to childhood encounters with Spider-Man, Batman-like figures, Darth Vader, Yoda, Donald Duck, Sesame Street characters, and human-sized toys, we explore one of the strangest corners of paranormal phenomena. Pasted markdownAre these memories and imagination? Ghosts? Screen memories? Tulpas and thoughtforms? Or can something familiar occasionally use fiction as a mask?Tonight, we’re breaking the fourth wall.Stay Safe • Stay Weird.Facebook and Twitter @holoskypodcastInstagram @ theholoskypodcast If you have an experience of your own you'd like to share with us please do.
Alien Viruses Pt. 4: The Armageddon Files
Unknown bodies. Unknown pathogens. Unknown intent. In Part Four of Alien Viruses, the investigation moves beyond crashed spacecraft and into something potentially much darker:What happens when contact with the unknown becomes a biological event? We begin in Somaliland, where a mysterious explosion reportedly left behind more questions than answers. Animals stopped grazing and began stampeding. People near the affected area suffered stomach problems and disturbing skin reactions. Some suspected a UFO. Somaliland President Muhammad Haji Ibrahim Egal believed something more conventional—but no less concerning—may have exploded over the region and publicly sought outside help determining what happened. Then we travel to Brazil. On January 20, 1996, the city of Varginha became the center of one of the strangest alleged UFO incidents in modern history.Witnesses described a bizarre humanoid creature with an oversized head, large red eyes, unusual protrusions on its skull and wet, shiny skin. According to the accounts explored in this episode, military and police personnel became involved, creatures were allegedly captured, hospitals were placed under unusual security—and rumors of American involvement soon followed. But for this series, one detail stands above the rest.A police officer associated with the alleged capture later became severely ill and died.Medical findings described serious infection, immune-system abnormalities, pneumonia and septicemia. The story would become one of the most disturbing pieces of the Varginha mystery: could physical contact with the creature have played a role in his death? From there, things get considerably stranger. We examine theories connecting cattle mutilations to biological research and HIV, claims of extraterrestrial biological warfare, and reports concerning a strange cluster of microbiologists who died or disappeared during the early 2000s. These are theories and claims rather than established evidence of an extraterrestrial program—but they form part of the increasingly bizarre material surrounding the Alien Viruses story. Then we meet “John.”According to his account, John worked at what would later become known as Area 51 in the early 1970s. His job allegedly gave him access to historical intelligence files concerning UFOs, biological warfare, chemical warfare and experimental weapons. What he claims to have read inside those files takes this investigation somewhere completely different. Seventeen strange humanoids allegedly brought to Los Alamos in 1943.Medical experimentation.Radiation testing.Bacteriological warfare experiments.Bodies recovered from the New Mexico desert in 1947.Autopsies.And an alleged unknown virus that killed members of a medical team despite protective equipment. And finally...Suit Study 48 – Armageddon. An alleged file describing strange clothing recovered from the beings—material that seemingly repaired itself when separated fibers were brought back together. Then someone decided to put it on.According to the story, the man experienced terrifying images of Earth's future:Ruined cities.Nuclear devastation.A blackened sky.Unidentified objects overhead. And a killer virus of unknown origin devastating the human immune system. The file allegedly ended with the suits being locked away and classified as an “intelligence hazard.”As always with alleged MJ-12 and Area 51 material, extraordinary testimony is not the same thing as authenticated evidence. But if even a fraction of these accounts were true, perhaps the most dangerous thing recovered from an alleged UFO wasn't its propulsion system.Maybe it was something biological. This is Alien Viruses Pt. 4: The Armageddon Files.Stay Safe • Stay Weird Facebook and Twitter @holoskypodcastInstagram @ theholoskypodcast If you have an experience of your own you'd like to share with us please do.
Alien Viruses: The Kennedy Connection
November 1963.President John F. Kennedy is asking questions.Questions about UFOs. Questions about classified programs. Questions about what the intelligence community knows—and according to alleged documents that surfaced decades later, Kennedy may have been preparing to do something about it.Then came Dallas. In this episode of Holosky, our investigation into Alien Viruses takes an unexpected turn as we explore one of the stranger theories surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy:What if JFK wasn't killed simply because of what he knew—but because of what he intended to reveal?According to documents discussed by Nick Redfern and Dr. Robert M. Wood, Kennedy had reportedly pushed the CIA for information concerning MJ-12 and UFO intelligence. At the height of the Cold War, there was also a very real concern behind the alleged interest: could the Soviet Union mistake an unidentified object—or a secret American aircraft—for a nuclear attack? The material claims Kennedy wanted greater cooperation with the Soviet Union, including the sharing of UFO and space information, in an effort to reduce the possibility of a catastrophic misunderstanding between the world's two nuclear superpowers. But then the connections begin piling up.Guy Banister. Fred Crisman. Clay Shaw. Jim Garrison. Philip Corso. Richard Russell. Dorothy Kilgallen. Marilyn Monroe.Names associated with various pieces of JFK history begin crossing into stories involving UFO investigations, intelligence agencies, crashed objects, Wright Field, biological warfare and alleged government UFO programs. And then comes November 1963.Shortly before his assassination, Kennedy was scheduled to visit aerospace medical research facilities in Texas. Among the people connected to the visit were individuals whose careers had passed through Wright Field and Fort Detrick—two locations that repeatedly appear throughout the material we've been examining concerning alleged recovered UFO bodies and biological research. The connections don't prove a conspiracy. Many of the MJ-12 documents at the center of these allegations remain disputed, and even the sources discussed in the episode acknowledge details that could point toward fabrication or disinformation. But viewed through the lens of this series, they raise a fascinating question. If Kennedy really was pushing for greater access to classified UFO information...If he really wanted cooperation with the Soviet Union...And if some of those secrets involved more than simply recovered spacecraft...How much was the President of the United States actually allowed to know? And what happens when a president starts asking questions someone doesn't want answered? This is Alien Viruses: The Kennedy Connection.Stay Safe • Stay Weird Facebook and Twitter @holoskypodcastInstagram @ theholoskypodcast If you have an experience of your own you'd like to share with us please do. What happens when the people sent to recover a crashed UFO start getting sick?In Part Two of Alien Viruses, we continue into the research presented by Nick Redfern and Dr. Robert M. Wood and follow one of the darkest threads surrounding alleged UFO crash-retrieval programs:Biological contamination. An alleged MJ-12 annual report describes personnel coming into contact with fluids from recovered non-human bodies. One technician reportedly collapsed while attempting to remove a body. Another slipped into a coma only hours after placing one into a body bag.Four technicians were eventually rushed to Los Alamos.According to the document, all four died after suffering seizures and profuse bleeding—despite wearing protective equipment. The suspected cause?A toxin or highly contagious disease associated with whatever had been recovered. But that's only the beginning. We dig into the strange history surrounding Camp Detrick, early biological-warfare research, retroviruses, and claims that biological samples recovered in New Mexico represented something potentially far more dangerous than extraterrestrial technology. We also look at a fascinating part of the UFO-document controversy itself: the possibility that genuine information could be deliberately mixed with false information, creating documents that can neither be completely authenticated nor completely dismissed. From there, the rabbit hole expands.Cattle mutilations.Biological warfare.UFO sightings occurring alongside disease outbreaks.Military and intelligence interest in whether unidentified craft could potentially deliver biological agents. And a strange 1950 story involving an object allegedly transported into a secured military hangar in Utah—followed by the unexplained deaths of all five men involved within a year. Then we arrive at Kingman, Arizona.According to the testimony attributed to “Fritz Werner,” a strange object crashed near Kingman on May 21, 1953. Werner later signed an affidavit claiming he participated in the investigation and saw both the recovered craft and the remains of its approximately four-foot-tall occupant. Additional accounts would eventually connect the Kingman story with recovered bodies, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, alleged survivors—and another possible contamination event. One account claims men entered the recovered craft wearing clean clothing and medical masks. They remained inside for approximately an hour. When they came back out, they were confused.Their stomachs were upset. They removed their masks and began vomiting. And strangely...they couldn't remember what they had seen inside.Maybe the greatest danger of recovering something from another world isn't figuring out how it flies.Maybe it's figuring out whether we can safely touch it.This is Alien Viruses Part Two: Crash Site Contagion.Stay Safe • Stay Weird Facebook and Twitter @holoskypodcastInstagram @ theholoskypodcast If you have an experience of your own you'd like to share with us please do.
Alien Viruses: Crashed UFOs, MJ-12 & Biological Contamination
What if recovering a crashed UFO came with a danger nobody was prepared for?Not radiation. Not an explosion. Not even the occupants themselves.Contamination.In this episode of Holosky, we begin digging into the claims presented in Alien Viruses by Dr. Robert M. Wood and Nick Redfern—a rabbit hole connecting alleged UFO crash recoveries, extraterrestrial biological material, secret government laboratories, biological warfare, and the possibility of pathogens originating somewhere other than Earth. And eventually, everything leads back to Roswell.According to an alleged 1947 report attributed to the Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit, two unidentified aircraft were tracked before disappearing from radar over New Mexico. Two crash locations were reportedly discovered, along with wreckage, technology and five bodies. But buried within that account is another disturbing detail. While personnel were securing one of the recovery sites, members of a radiobiological team reportedly encountered some form of contamination.Three technicians died. If the document is genuine, suddenly the biological precautions surrounding UFO recovery begin to make a little more sense. We look into alleged Majestic-12 documents, SOM 1-01, Fort Detrick and USAMRIID, biological containment facilities, retroviruses and prions, along with the uncomfortable overlap between studying dangerous pathogens to protect against them—and studying those same organisms for biological warfare. We also explore a question that isn't limited to UFO lore at all:Can biological material from space survive the journey to Earth?Planetary contamination has been taken seriously enough to appear in international space treaties, NASA planetary-protection discussions, and scientific debates surrounding microorganisms potentially arriving from the upper atmosphere or beyond. Then the rabbit hole gets deeper.MJ-12.MAJIC.The Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit.Alleged recovered technology.Secret biological laboratories.Oak Ridge. And documents suggesting that whatever happened during early UFO recovery operations may have created hazards that conventional physicians weren't prepared to understand. There is an important distinction throughout all of this: much of the extraordinary UFO material discussed in this episode comes from alleged or disputed classified documents, rather than established historical fact. But the question behind them is very real.If humanity ever does recover biological material originating somewhere beyond Earth...what happens if it isn't compatible with life here? And what happens if it's already happened?Stay Safe • Stay WeirdFacebook and Twitter @holoskypodcastInstagram @ theholoskypodcast If you have an experience of your own you'd like to share with us please do. Some paranormal cases survive because of folklore.Others survive because someone put what happened in writing. In this episode of Holosky, we travel to Vallecas, a working-class district of Madrid, Spain, for one of the country’s most infamous alleged hauntings: The Vallecas Case. The story centers on Estefanía Gutiérrez, a teenage girl whose life took a terrifying turn in the early 1990s.Months earlier, Estefanía's dying grandfather had reportedly left her with a chilling final threat:
“If I cannot harm you in this life, I’ll harm you in the next.”
Then, in February 1990, Estefanía and several friends attempted to contact a deceased friend using a homemade Ouija board at school. A teacher discovered the séance and abruptly broke the board apart. Witnesses claimed a strange gray smoke emerged from it—and that Estefanía inhaled it. Soon afterward, something began happening to her.Headaches and illness reportedly progressed into violent convulsions, unexplained voices, frightening changes in behavior, and sightings of human-shaped shadows lurking inside the family's apartment. Doctors investigated Estefanía's condition, but according to the case material, neurological and psychiatric evaluations failed to provide a complete explanation for what she was experiencing. Then, on August 14, 1991, 17-year-old Estefanía died. But for the Gutiérrez family, her death wasn't the end.It was the beginning.Knocking came from Estefanía's bedroom. Doors allegedly opened and slammed on their own. Religious objects were disturbed. Shadow figures appeared throughout the apartment. Unexplained fires were reported. The family even claimed that a photograph of Estefanía mysteriously caught fire inside its frame. Eventually, things became so frightening that the family did something unusual for a haunting case:They called the police. In November 1992, four National Police officers responded to the apartment. And according to their account, the phenomena didn't stop when the police arrived.Officers reported witnessing inexplicable movement inside the apartment, a cabinet door opening without anyone near it, disturbances involving a crucifix, a dramatic temperature drop—and even a dark human-shaped figure standing in the corridor. The Vallecas Case would become famous precisely because elements of the family's claims crossed over from paranormal testimony into an official police response. But decades later, another twist complicated the story when two of Estefanía's younger brothers claimed that they had faked some of the phenomena occurring inside the apartment. So what really happened in Vallecas? Was Estefanía the victim of an interrupted Ouija session?Did her grandfather's disturbing final words have anything to do with what followed?Did grief, fear and suggestion transform a family's tragedy into something paranormal?Or did something genuinely inexplicable enter that apartment—and remain there after Estefanía was gone? The Vallecas Haunting.Stay Safe. Some UFO encounters are strange. And then there are the ones that seem to completely ignore the rulebook. In this episode of Holosky, we dig into three close encounters involving entities so bizarre that they almost sound more like science fiction than traditional UFO reports.First, we travel back to Old Saybrook, Connecticut, in 1957, where retired schoolteacher Mary M. Starr was awakened in the middle of the night by an intense light pouring into her bedroom.Outside her window was a strange craft hovering near her home. And looking back at her through two windows were creatures unlike almost anything normally associated with UFO encounters—sickly yellow bodies, long red appendages, translucent cube-shaped heads, and glowing red spheres seemingly suspended inside them. Then we head to Paciência, Brazil, for the incredible story of bus driver Antonio La Rubia. While walking to work early one morning in 1977, Antonio encountered a massive metallic object sitting in a field. Moments later, he found himself surrounded by strange robot-like entities equipped with antennae, tentacle-like arms, pedestal-shaped lower bodies, and belts covered in syringes. What followed was an alleged abduction involving paralysis, examinations, bizarre images apparently showing events that had already happened—or were still to come—and an unexplained illness that would affect Antonio for more than a month. Finally, we travel to a fog-covered road near Domsten, Sweden, in December 1958.Hans Gustafsson and Stig Rydberg stopped their car after noticing a mysterious glow coming from the woods. After investigating, they discovered a strange disc-shaped object resting nearby. Then the things surrounding it came after them. The men described a swarm of living, gelatinous creatures that wrapped around their arms and legs and attempted to drag them toward the waiting saucer. The encounter lasted only minutes, but both men claimed to suffer physical injuries and severe anxiety afterward.Three cases.Three completely different kinds of entities. And three encounters that remain very, very weird.Close Encounters of the Weird Kind.Stay Safe.
Fortean 50: Idaho
The Fortean 50 rolls into Idaho, and this one gets weird fast.Idaho may be known for mountains, forests, lakes, and some of the most remote wilderness in the country—but buried throughout the state are stories of creatures in the water, things moving through the backcountry, and unexplained objects overhead. We start in the lakes. For decades, people around Payette Lake have reported seeing Sharlie, a massive serpent-like creature described as having a long neck and multiple humps breaking the surface of the water. The story became big enough in the 1940s to escape Idaho entirely and make national—and eventually international—headlines. But Sharlie isn't alone. There’s the absolutely bizarre Swan Valley Monster, a creature reportedly encountered in 1868 that sounds like somebody assembled every nightmare animal they could think of into one body. Then there’s the Bear Lake Monster, another long-running Idaho legend with reports stretching back more than a century. And once we leave the water, things don't exactly get more normal.Deep in Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains, two experienced outdoorsmen encounter something enormous moving through the wilderness—something upright, athletic, and strangely canine before dropping onto all fours and disappearing down the mountainside. Then we look up.Idaho has produced its share of strange UFO reports, including an incredible 1947 case near St. Maries involving multiple witnesses who claimed to watch eight objects descend onto a mountainside, prompting searches of the area. There are reports of enormous silent triangles over Boise, strange shape-changing objects gliding over Idaho Falls, and unexplained lights witnessed near the Idaho National Engineering & Environmental Laboratory. One witness—an Army veteran familiar with military aircraft—said simply that he had never seen anything like it. From monsters beneath dark mountain lakes to something prowling the Sawtooth wilderness and unexplained objects moving through Idaho skies, the Gem State has plenty to add to our map of weird America.Welcome to Idaho.Stay Safe. In the early morning hours of October 27, 1975, David Stephens and Glen Gray set out on what was supposed to be an ordinary late-night drive through the back roads of Maine.Instead, they found themselves face-to-face with a silent object rising from a cornfield, missing hours of time, and experiencing a series of bizarre events that would change their lives forever.Their encounter included a massive cylindrical craft, unexplained missing time, physical illnesses, glowing orange eyes, strange mental impressions, and one of the most detailed hypnotic regressions in UFO history. As investigators dug deeper, the case expanded far beyond a simple sighting, uncovering alleged onboard examinations, telepathic communication, mysterious government-like visitors, and a chain of events that ultimately led to what many consider the most chilling Men in Black encounter ever documented. In this episode, we explore the David Stephens abduction, the investigation by Brent Raynes and Dr. Herbert Hopkins, and the extraordinary events that followed.Stay Safe.
