Chronicle 117: "Tragedy at Texas Tech"
This episode is rated a 5 (on my Campus Crime Scale).
In October of 2017, Texas Tech University police officer Floyd East Jr. reported to the dorm room of 19-year-old sophomore Hollis Daniels III for what was supposed to be a routine wellness check.
But what began as a wellness check on a college student would soon spiral into an unthinkable tragedy.
By the end of the night, Officer East was lying on the floor of the Texas Tech Police Department, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the head — a wound inflicted at the hands of Daniels.
And Daniels was nowhere to be found.
What followed was a massive, multi-agency manhunt across the Texas Tech campus. And approximately 90 minutes later, Daniels was finally located, taken into custody, and charged with the capital murder of a police officer.
