Weakened by a prolonged period of liberal »higher criticism«, the church in Germany found itself under serious attacks during the 1930’s–1940’s. Largely unknown but with great courage and a renewed commitment to the authority and power of the Bible, the Confessing Church resisted those attacks. While we may not agree with everyone in that movement on all matters of doctrine, there is much the church can learn from their example. Those who minister in Germany and Central Europe particularly need to know something of their history.
