Mark Petersen is the CEO of Stronger Philanthropy, a firm dedicated to providing philanthropic management services for Canadian foundations and major donors to facilitate strategic and visionary generosity.
Stronger Philanthropy’s seasoned team has overseen $64m in 1,638 grants to Canadian charities being awarded by its clients since 2000. Stronger Philanthropy offers resources and streamlined systems to assist givers in maximizing impact for their generosity.
Mark is the author of Love Giving Well: Philanthropy as Pilgrimage, published by Wipf & Stock. The vision of philanthropy espoused in the book not only includes charitable impact but suggest the giver can be transformed in the process. The book offers a window into how people of faith struggle with giving, humanizes the mystique of a philanthropist, and provides grantmakers with tangible tools in their efforts to be both shrewd and faithful.
Mark has a BA (History) from University of Waterloo, an MDiv from Tyndale Seminary in Toronto, and a DLd from George Fox University in Portland OR where he focused research on navigating succession within family philanthropy. He and his wife, Karen, now split their time between St Stephen, New Brunswick and Dundas, Ontario. He is the father of two adult sons, and a granddaughter who calls him Papa.

The conversation centres around a discussion of connections, particularly with land and treaty, that are vital and important. Joel also shares what change or movement he would like to see towards the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action.

Jared Ross, is a musician and songwriter located in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. Jared’s life, like many of the Indigenous children at the time, was greatly affected by the residential schools, though he never attended one himself. In this episode, Jared gives us a little glimpse of his childhood, growing up in the reserve at Cross Lake, Manitoba, the challenges he faced when he decided to move out to study at Eston College and how he eventually found healing and total freedom in Jesus.
His journey of forgiveness and healing is both powerful and challenging. Jared is passionate about the church and envisions a day that the youth of the First Nations will experience revival and healing. He currently serves at Deeper Life Ministries located in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan.

Galina is a Russian immigrant who resides in Annapolis, Nova Scotia with her husband and two children. In one of her travels to Ukraine a few years ago, she fell in love with the people of Ukraine and their language, creating long-lasting and beautiful friendships with her country’s perceived enemies. She shares the complexity and heartbreak of being caught in the tension of differing viewpoints and political propaganda while feeling shame and grief over the acts of violence caused by her own country towards people she now considers family.

Karen Jolly is an indigenous woman leader in the Christian community in Manitoba. She has been involved in ministry for many years and has a heart for reconciliation.

"Reconciliation is fixing something that has been broken, and it carries into many different places. But probably the strongest thing is relationships. When relationships are broken, there needs to be a time where you bring people together, you talk about what's happened"
This is Karen Jolly's story...
As an indigenous woman, she understands the importance of bringing people together to mend broken relationships. She has worked hard to overcome her own pain and trauma, and to be the best mom she can be to her two grown children. Karen's hope is that the next generation will continue the journey of reconciliation with each other and Christ and that the country can begin to heal the wounds of the past.
