Mindsets are beliefs about ourselves and our most basic qualities and abilities. There are two types: fixed and growth. In a fixed mindset, most people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits whereas in growth mindset people believe their most basic abilities can be developed through hard work and dedication. Mindsets are not just any beliefs but are beliefs that orient our reactions and tendencies. They serve several cognitive functions in our brain.
