JAMA October 2026 Digital and Coaching Interventions for Uptake of Cancer Genetic Testing The MiGHT Randomized Clinical Trial

1m | Oct 13, 2026

The Michigan Genetic Hereditary Testing trial explored how to increase low completion rates for hereditary cancer genetic testing. Researchers evaluated nearly eight hundred adult participants who qualified for genetic evaluation across three different groups. Individuals were randomly assigned to receive either telephone-based health coaching, a self-directed digital tool, or standard care. The findings demonstrated that the digital intervention significantly improved early testing rates at six months, whereas health coaching effectively increased testing uptake over a twelve-month period. Ultimately, these alternative strategies successfully boosted testing uptake compared to standard care, highlighting the value of motivational messaging and digital delivery models in clinical care.
