In this episode of the Green Futures Corridor podcast, we explore the Cherangani Forest Landscape and why protecting it matters for everyday life, livelihoods, and long-term community resilience.
The Cherangani Forest is a vital water tower and biodiversity hotspot that supports clean water, fertile soils, climate regulation, and sustainable livelihoods for surrounding communities. Through this conversation, we unpack the close connection between healthy ecosystems and human wellbeing, and why conservation is not just an environmental issue, but a social and economic one.
Featuring voices from community leaders, Site Support Groups (SSGs), Community Forest Associations (CFAs), and conservation practitioners, the episode highlights how community-led conservation strengthens forest protection, biodiversity monitoring, environmental education, and nature-based livelihoods such as beekeeping, tree nurseries, eco-farming, and youth enterprises.
We also discuss the challenges facing the Cherangani landscape, including deforestation, land degradation, climate change, water shortages, and declining farm productivity, and how local action and collaboration can address these pressures.
This episode reflects the work of Rural African Matters (RAM) and the Green Futures Corridor (GFC) initiative, which promote integrated, people-centered approaches to landscape restoration, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
