Have you ever been told "You don't need that book. You have more at home that you haven't even read!"? And did you feel an irrational, irate, irritating, indignation?

Today Edwin and Megan are here to tell you that those feelings are anything but irrational and that contemptible cur should listen to this podcast. You should too, for you will feel oh-so-victorious when you hear that you indeed have the moral high ground. But you knew that already, didn't you?

  • Ep. 60 "Frankenstein by Mary Shelley"

    It's alive. It's ALIVE!!

This week listen and learn all about a famous dynamic duo. One filled with hate, murder, and existential angst. No no, it's not Edwin and Megan. It is actually Victor Frankenstein and his Creature.

Overwhelmed by the sublime, a creation that de-creates, the death of innocence, are just some of the themes Edwin and Megan discuss. Also how they don't actually like the book and how the movie is better. What is this world coming to?!? Run for your lives!

  • Ep.59 "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"

Dr. Megan and Mr. Edwin dive into the strangeness that is the duality of man. Dr. Megan (purely good of course) and Mr. Edwin (badly bad badness) show why you (yes you) should read the actual literal literary words of R.L. Stevenson.

Why? This novella is already so known, so retold and remixed, so integrated into those weird dreams you have when you're not asleep but you're not really awake either. Yep, I have those too. Daring and exciting prose, multiple narrators, biblical metaphors, should be enough to entice you to read this. If it's not, I have a yummy serum for you to try...

  • Ep. 58 "Quick Fire Quack: Fall Edition "

Aaahh yes, the season of death. We love it. Pumpkins die, apples die, crispety crunchety leaves die. It is fun.

Edwin and Megan talk about this and all the other aspects that make this such a wonderful time of year. Such as cozy movies, Edwin's abhorrence of cinnamon (or was synonyms?), and how Edwin hopes that other patterns than plaid will appear in the extra tall shirt department.

Head to the shop for some more "original" fall gear! If you like orange, we've got. All of it. We have all the orange.

  • Ep. 57 "Hammer Dyeing"

With nothing more than brute force, sheer expenditure of explosive energy, wielding a mighty hammer, beautiful delicate flower petals can be driven deep within the fibers of fabric, preserved in perpetuity with nary a how-do-you-do.

Can it really be that simple? Can wielding a hammer at cotton the way Kubrick's monkey wielded a bone at a tapir really create a lasting and intricate print?

Not so much. Tune into this weeks' exciting episode to get the downlow, the deets, while the dynamic duo describes all the steps involved with hammer dyeing; an offshoot of plant dyeing.

  • Ep. 56 "The Comancheros: words men live by"

"Words are what men live by, words they say and mean". Edwin and Megan discuss this important theme that is explored in the movie "The Comancheros" (made in 1961, starring John Wayne, Stuart Whitman, directed by Michael Curtiz).

Paul Regret's (Stuart Whitman) questions the value of words and how action relates to words.

Discussing a Western full of action, humor, and heart, Megan and Edwin use words to explain the power of words and why words mean meaningful things.

  • Ep. 55 "Why You Should Re-Read the Hobbit"

We know you've read "The Hobbit" but have you re-read it? This literary treasure takes on layers of meaning each time your pupil, iris, cornea, retina, stuffed into a cavernous hole socket thing in your skull, glances over it. That means, you can read it with new eyes each time.

Edwin and Megan have read it so many times they now have to wear glasses. But don't worry, that ophthalmologist won't get you. With them as guides they will show you themes, ideas, and motifs. That means, they'll talk about interesting things you may or may not have noticed before and have you running to your copy to make sure they're right. Or your right. As long as somebody's right! Right?

If you've made it this far... go re-read "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien! You can thank me later.

  • Ep. 54 "Challenging Challenges Challenged"

Some musings on why one should challenge themselves early and often. You must ssuuffaaah! Some thoughts that Megan and Edwin thunk include:

Life being difficult should be expected, unless it's the Spanish Inquisition.

That challenging yourself will make the unavoidable challenges less surprising. (note I didn't say easier)

That once overloaded with challenges you will start to realize that those are what make up a life filled with adventure. "An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered." G.K. Chesterton.

Can a story stop a war? Are we better off for living post the "Age of Reason"? Is being rational reasonable and being reasonable rational?
