The film stars Frank Langella in the title role as well as Laurence Olivier, Donald Pleasence and Kate Nelligan. The film is based on Bram Stoker&#39;s 1897 novel Dracula and its 1924 stage adaptation, though much of Stoker&#39;s original plot was revised to make the film more romantic, as advertised by the tagline &#34;A Love Story&#34;. The film received mostly positive reviews and was a moderate box office success. It won the 1979 Saturn Award for Best Horror Film. The Mummy is a 1959 British horror film, directed by Terence Fisher and starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. It was written by Jimmy Sangster and produced by Michael Carreras and Anthony Nelson Keys for Hammer Film Productions. The film was distributed in the UK on 25 September 1959, and in the U.S. in December, 1959 on a double bill with either the Vincent Price film The Bat or the Universal film Curse of the Undead. In 1956, the film was re-released by Realart Pictures as a double feature with Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. The film is set in a hotel. Following the murder of a prominent lawyer within the hotel, the hotel&#39;s bellboy is kept in custody at his room. The other suspects in the murder case manipulate him into signing a false confession, and then try to eliminate him. Meanwhile, the corpses of two more victims are found hidden in the bellboy&#39;s closet.

Jake&#39;s book THE DEVIL&#39;S LEAGUE is available now: tinyurl.com/tdljc The Dark Universe was an attempt to start a combined setting of monster films produced by Universal Pictures, featuring reimagined takes of the classic Universal Horror characters in an apparent attempt to follow the success of other studios&#39; successful franchises. Originally intended to launch with 2014&#39;s Dracula Untold, development of a shared monster universe was postponed when that film underperformed. Universal went back to the table, formed a brain trust to plot a course for a future series that was meant to begin with 2017&#39;s The Mummy reboot, starring Tom Cruise as Nick Morton, Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll, and Sofia Boutella as the titular mummy. The studio created a &#34;Dark Universe&#34; logo that would pair with the iconic Universal globe, accompanied with a leitmotif from prolific composer Danny Elfman titled &#34;Monsters Legacy&#34;, and announced a second installment, a remake of Bride of Frankenstein to be directed by Bill Condon and star Javier Bardem as Frankenstein&#39;s monster. Johnny Depp was also cast as The Invisible Man. And then The Mummy came out, underperformed at the box office, and was panned by critics. After over a year of silence about the project, Universal announced in January 2019 that the Dark Universe was completely scrapped in favor of letting directors work on smaller, individual projects starring the classic Universal horror characters. This led to a theoretical third iteration of the Dark Universe in all but name, starting in 2020 with a smaller-budget reboot of The Invisible Man co-produced by Blumhouse, written and directed by Leigh Whannell (Saw, Upgrade), and made without the involvement of Johnny Depp. That film&#39;s success led to the repurposing of an earlier Dark Universe concept as a comedy in 2023&#39;s Renfield. In 2024, it was announced that the Dark Universe branding would be resurrected for a horror-themed section of Universal Studios&#39; Epic Universe expansion to their Orlando resort. The longest-running and most successful iteration of the event, in Orlando, Florida, began as Universal Studios Fright Nights in 1991 as a 3-night event at Universal Studios Florida. The following year, it was re-branded as Halloween Horror Nights, advertised as the &#34;second annual event&#34;. Since then, it has evolved into a scare-a-thon event filled with themed haunted houses, scare zones and shows that runs over the course of select nights from late August/early September until late October/early November, inspiring offshoots at other Universal Studios locations across the globe. The Orlando event was held at Universal Studios Florida from 1991 until 2001, after which Halloween Horror Nights moved to neighboring Universal Islands of Adventure for 2002 and 2003. In 2004, a dual-park format was tested, which opened parts of both parks, before returning exclusively to Islands of Adventure in 2005. Making its return to Universal Studios Florida in 2006, the event has been held yearly with the exception of 2020, when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, making it the first year that Orlando&#39;s Halloween Horror Nights was not held since its inception. The film is based on both the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker and its 1924 play adaptation by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston. It follows the eponymous vampire Conde Drácula as he travels from Transylvania to England to prey upon new victims. The film stars Carlos Villarías as Drácula, alongside Barry Norton, Pablo Alvarez Rubio, and Eduardo Arozamena. Dracula was made as part of Hollywood studios&#39; attempts to make films for foreign-language audiences. By 1930, Universal had focused primarily on developing Spanish-language films for the foreign market. Filming began on October 10, 1930, where it was shot on the same sets as Tod Browning&#39;s production of Dracula. Director Melford regularly watched daily filming from Browning&#39;s production, and applied what he saw to film his own version. The film was released in Cuba in 1931 and for a long time was forgotten, only mentioned briefly by some horror film historians in the 1960s and 1970s. It received greater attention after a print for the film was found in New Jersey. A screening at the Museum of Modern Art in August 1977 led to a popular home video release on VHS in 1992. Critical reception to this film often compared the two versions of Dracula with some critics weighing the pros and cons of both based on the explicitness of the Spanish version with its costumes and scenes, the film&#39;s length, and the performance of Carlos Villarías as Count Dracula.
