Dr. Mike Van Amburgh: Rethinking Dairy Amino Acid Requirements | Ep. 170
In this episode of The Feed Science Podcast Show, Dr. Mike Van Amburgh, Professor at Cornell University, explains why modern dairy nutrition must keep pace with continuous genetic progress. He discusses the evolution of the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System, emerging amino acid requirements, and research aimed at reducing nitrogen excretion without sacrificing productivity. Listen now on all major platforms!
โModern dairy nutrition models require methodical updates because formulation decisions affect large cattle populations across many production systems and geographic regions.โ
Meet the guest: Dr. Mike Van Amburgh is a Professor at Cornell University whose work spans dairy cattle nutrition, nutrient requirements, feed chemistry, nitrogen and urea recycling, and development of the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System. He leads Cornellโs undergraduate Dairy Fellows program and has advised the Dairy Club for more than three decades. Dr. Van Amburgh earned a Ph.D. in Animal Science from Cornell University and a bachelorโs degree in Dairy Science from The Ohio State University.
