S4E2 - Anger: The Quintessential Sin of Fatherhood
1h 12m | Sep 15, 2026Anger might be the quintessential sin of fatherhood. It's the one that shows up at bedtime, in the car, in the moment a kid won't listen for the fifth time, and it's the one our kids are most likely to watch us model and then repeat.
We open this episode with a pattern Brook is still working through: bedtime gets stressful in his house, and it often ends in anger. But when we look closer, what makes us angry in that moment usually isn't the kids at all, it's everything sitting underneath. Brook and Justin dig into why anger is a secondary emotion, and why our families so often get our worst, even when we hold it together everywhere else. Most of us don't have an anger problem. We have an awareness problem: we don't recognize what's actually driving the reaction, which is usually a realization that we're not in control, we're not God, and we can't always get what we want.
But we don't stop at the diagnosis. We get honest about our own angry moments, name the pride that's often underneath ("this shouldn't be happening to me"), and land on the real hope: a Christian father isn't defined by the absence of sin, but by the presence of repentance. Repair has a way of healing even the most painful places, moving a family from pain to healing to resilience. We close by looking at how Jesus modeled anger rightly: never for his own power, always for the sake of someone else, making room for joy, kindness, and long-suffering instead.
