• 7 Major Takeaways from Dallas Cowboys Loss to New York Giants

The Dallas Cowboys opened the 2026 NFL season with a disappointing 28-20 loss to the New York Giants, and there is a LOT to unpack from Week 1.

In this episode of The Landry Hat Podcast, Zac Lee breaks down seven major takeaways from the Cowboys loss to the Giants, including just how bad the Dallas defense really was, why the Cowboys pass rush struggled to create pressure, how Jaxson Dart was able to stay comfortable all night, and why the defensive performance may have been even worse than it looked in real time.

The numbers are ugly. Dallas produced one of the worst defensive performances in the NFL dating back to the start of last season, struggled badly on third down, and generated almost no pressure when rushing only four defenders. We break down what went wrong with Christian Parker's defense, whether the issues were scheme-related or personnel-related, and how concerning it is that many of the same problems from the 2025 Cowboys defense showed up again in Week 1.

We also take a closer look at Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense, because the offensive performance may have been better than it felt. Dallas only had six meaningful offensive possessions in the entire game, far below the normal NFL average, but still scored 20 points and finished with 3.33 points per possession. The Cowboys also scored touchdowns on both of their second-half drives.

So how much blame should Dak Prescott and the offense really get? Was the running game good enough? Did the Cowboys offensive line struggle? And how much did the defense's inability to get off the field completely change the way we viewed the offense?

Zac breaks down all of that, plus what Dallas needs to fix before Week 2, which problems are actually correctable, and which issues should already have Cowboys fans concerned about the rest of the 2026 season.

  • 5 Takeaways From Dallas Cowboys Training Camp That MATTER for 2026 AND the Future...

CHECKOUT MYBOOKIE: https://bit.ly/joinwithLANDRYHAT WITH CODE LANDRYHAT

The Dallas Cowboys are wrapping up training camp, and we’ve learned a LOT about what this team could look like heading into the 2026 NFL season.

On this episode of The Landry Hat Podcast, we break down the five biggest takeaways from Cowboys training camp, starting with Christian Parker’s defense and why there are legitimate reasons to believe this unit could be ahead of schedule.

We also discuss the impressive start from Dallas’ rookie class, including Caleb Downs, Jaishawn Barham, Malachi Lawrence and LT Overton, plus the young Cowboys players who have taken major steps forward throughout camp.

Shavon Revel has continued to develop, DaRon Bland has stayed healthy and made plays, Rashan Gary has provided a steady veteran presence, and players like James Houston have added even more depth to a defense that suddenly looks fast, physical and versatile.

On offense, Joe Milton and Malik Davis have made strong cases to win important backup roles, while Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, Jake Ferguson and Javonte Williams give Dallas the pieces to potentially have one of the best offenses in football.

But the biggest takeaway might be the identity of this Cowboys team under Brian Schottenheimer.

From aggressive roster moves involving George Pickens, Quinnen Williams, Jalen Thompson and Von Miller to the additions of Caleb Downs and Tyler Booker, Dallas has clearly changed the way it is building this roster.

Bigger up front. Faster at linebacker. Versatile in the secondary. Multiple pass rushers. Disguised coverages. A physical offense capable of running the football and creating explosive plays.

For the first time in a while, it feels like we know exactly what the Dallas Cowboys are trying to be.

Now they have to prove it when the games actually count.
