Ep. 527: How Has Your Dad Affected Your View of God?

7m | Sep 8, 2026

In this episode of Guided by Faith, Jay explores how our relationship with our earthly father can influence the way we understand and relate to God as our Heavenly Father. Through Romans 8 and the biblical picture of adoption, Jay explains that God invites His children into a close and personal relationship with Him, but experiences with an absent, distant, or abusive father can sometimes make it difficult to see God accurately. Drawing from his own experience with a loving and faithful dad, Jay contrasts the imperfections of earthly fathers with the perfect character of God, who is loving, good, patient, present, and committed to His children. For teens and young adults who have experienced father wounds or struggled to understand God as Father, this episode offers encouragement and the reminder that God is not defined by our earthly relationships. In Christ, we can know the perfect Father who loves us, disciplines us for our good, and promises to work all things together for those who love Him.
