• How can I improve my code quality ?

🍝 Spaghetti code can be disastrous: it has a great impact on the quality of your software, team's efficiency, cooperativeness.

The messier code, the harder maintainability, which can, unfortunately, lead to the 'slow death' of your project or product.

👆 That is why every software engineer should take care of the quality of the code. You must spend more time working on this problem, and it surely will pay off in the future.

There are some ways to improve the quality of your code, and in this post, I would like to share them with you. I hope it will be extremely useful and will trigger changes in your companies code.

  • What Is Technical Debt In Scrum ?

🌊Technical debt appears in every IT project, despite the programming languages, frameworks, or methodologies used. It represents the costs affiliated with every engineering decision made in a project.

🖋️We use this term to describe to people who don’t completely realize software development practices that there is a definite cost to rushing things. Much like monetary debt, you need to make a plan to reduce the technical deficit over time, or it will spiral out of control.

🛠️Developers, like savers, have opinions on the best way to tackle debt.

In this post, we share tips on how to deal with the t.d., focused on scrum methodology for software development because it is a widely respected and adopted framework.

  • Jira Capacity Planning

⏰ Being on schedule is the only good news you long for during a sprint.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑🧑🏿‍🤝‍🧑🏿If you are taking care of a software development team, you need to make sure that the iterations are meeting scheduled delivery times while your team members utilize their capacities fully.

Planning their capacities may not be a one-time process; rather, it's an ongoing process and is worth spending hours on it along with the finances.

  • How to measure code quality

There are certain metrics that are used to measure code quality. These are:

    ⚙️Maintainability

Maintainability in terms of code quality means how easy is to make changes in the codebase and the amount of risk associated with it.

Some changes that the developer estimated can be made in a few hours, if it takes around 2 days to make, implements, and push the change, then probably the code is not that maintainable. On the other hand, if the changes can be pushed without little or no hiccups, then certainly the codebase can be called ‘Maintainable’.

    🛠Well Tested

The application is finally used by the end-user. Any bug in the application can actually demotivate the user further from using the app. Therefore, emphasis must be laid on proper testing of the application.

It must be made sure by the QA and testing team that the code passes all the test cases and the corner cases. With that being said, there is no program that is free of bugs. But, these bugs must be fixed at regular intervals so as to give the end-user a trouble-free experience.

  • Code Quality Metrics

Code quality is an important aspect of programming.

👨‍💻 Whatever language is used to write the code, a high-quality code is always reflected in the end product.

However, the question stands – what is code quality?

The definition of code quality is subjective. Something that might be considered good by one person, might not get the same response from another.

👆However, a good quality code can be characterized as clean, efficient, and reliable.

Code quality metrics can be used to determine code quality. In this audio we talk about some of the common metrics:

    ⚙️Extensibility

    ⚙️Maintainability

    ⚙️Readability

    ⚙️Clarity

    ⚙️Efficiency

    ⚙️Documentation
