- The Overlooked Responsibility of the Decision Maker
Are you paying attention to what is getting your attention?
In Episode 5 of The Breath of Fresh Air Podcast, we examine attention, distraction, trust, technology, social media, parenting, health, food, education, and the institutions we rely on to make decisions for us.
Our children are growing up in an environment where nearly everything is competing for their attention—but adults are facing the same problem. Phones, social media, entertainment, advertising, news, businesses, and other forms of content are constantly asking us to look, listen, click, buy, follow, and consume.
But what happens when we stop paying attention to ourselves?
This episode explores an important question:
Who is paying attention to the things that affect your life when you aren't?
We discuss how children develop habits from what repeatedly captures their attention, why parents can feel like they are competing with their children's phones, how adults can become distracted from their own goals, and why what we consume can influence what we think, believe, feel, and eventually become.
We also examine the trust we place in institutions, experts, businesses, healthcare, education, food providers, technology, and other systems that influence our everyday lives.
This conversation asks:
• Why is attention so important?
• Why are children becoming increasingly distracted?
• How does social media affect our attention?
• How does technology compete for our attention?
• Why do we have difficulty paying attention to ourselves?
• How does what we consume influence who we become?
• Should we question what we have been taught?
• Does a degree or credential automatically mean something is true?
• Why is it important to investigate the information we receive?
• How can we become more intentional about what we watch, listen to, eat, and believe?
• Why do we blindly trust systems and institutions to pay attention for us?
• How can parents help children develop better attention habits?
• What happens when distraction keeps us from our goals?
• How can you take control of what gets your attention?
• What should you pay attention to when it comes to your mental and physical wellness?
• How can you reset your social media feed to support who you are becoming?
The episode uses a simple idea: your life is like a map.
Your current location matters.
If you don't know where you are, it becomes difficult to determine the best route to where you want to go.
Pay attention to your body.
Pay attention to your mind.
Pay attention to what you're eating.
Pay attention to what you're being taught.
Pay attention to what you believe.
Pay attention to what you consume.
Pay attention to what gets your attention.
Pay attention to what you are becoming.
Because if you don't pay attention, you may eventually become exactly what someone else wanted you to become.
The Breath of Fresh Air Podcast offers fresh perspective and reflective guidance to help you overcome challenges and become who you're capable of becoming.

S1E5 - 15m - Sep 20, 2026 - How to Avoid The Contagion Costing America $192 Billion
In this episode 4 of The Breath of Fresh Air Podcast, Dante P. Johnson challenges the way we think about exercise, strength training, and physical wellness.
Your body isn’t a display system. It’s a performance system.
We use our bodies every day to walk, stand, sit, bend, lift, carry, reach, climb, push, and pull. The goal of training shouldn’t simply be to lose weight or look better in the mirror. It should be to preserve your ability to participate in your own life.
Dante introduces the concept of becoming an “Athlete of Life”—training your body to remain strong, mobile, capable, and physically independent for as long as possible.
But there’s another problem: contagion.
Contagion is the spread of something from one person to another. And physical inactivity can become contagious—not because it’s a virus, but because behavior spreads through example.
When the people around us stop valuing strength, movement, and physical wellness, that behavior can influence the people around them. A parent who never exercises can unintentionally teach a child that physical activity is something you stop caring about once you become an adult.
That is the contagion.
And according to the CDC, inadequate physical activity is associated with approximately $192 billion in annual U.S. healthcare costs.
This episode explores the cultural contagion of inactivity, why strength and mobility matter as we age, the importance of training the lower body and glutes for function, and why physical fitness should be about far more than appearance.
This isn’t about becoming a professional athlete.
It’s about becoming capable of performing the sport you can never retire from:
LIFE.
Stop thinking about exercise as something you do simply to look good.
Start thinking about it as training to remain capable.
Become the Athlete of Your Life.
The secret to not quitting the gym isn’t finding enough motivation. It’s finding something worth remaining capable for.
S1E4 - 12m - Sep 13, 2026 - How to Overcome Emotional Overload
What do you do when you’re emotionally overloaded?
Do you fight it? Ignore it? Run from it? Take it out on somebody else? Or do you stop long enough to understand what is actually happening inside of you?
In Episode 3 of The Breath of Fresh Air Podcast, we take a fresh look at emotional overload—what it is, how it builds, how it affects the way we think and respond, and what we can actually do about it.
I break emotional overload down through four roles you may find yourself playing: the person experiencing the overload, the innocent bystander, the witness, the nearest support human, or even the trigger.
Because sometimes the person having the emotional moment isn’t the only person who needs to process what is happening.
We also explore two different ways to overcome emotional overload:
The Strategic Way — examining yourself, identifying what you’re feeling, understanding what caused it, asking yourself difficult questions, and consciously deciding how you want to respond.
The Faithful Way — surrendering what you cannot resolve to God and trusting Him with what you are carrying.
And then we put the conversation into practice with a taste of my signature intentional breathing method: iBreathing.
Questions this episode answers:
• What is emotional overload and what causes it?
• What are the signs that I’m experiencing emotional overload?
• How do I deal with emotional overload?
• What should I do when someone else is emotionally overwhelmed?
• How do I process unresolved emotions instead of letting them build up?
• How can intentional breathing help with emotional overwhelm?
• How do I give my emotional burdens to God?
We talk about emotional Jenga, forgiveness, self-examination, unresolved emotions, intentional breathing, faith, surrender, and the difference between simply feeling an emotion and actually processing it.
Because every experience is an inhale.
And what happens between the inhale and the exhale can have a lot to do with who you become and what you do next.
At the end of this episode, I invite you to join me for two minutes of intentional breathing—a simple introduction to iBreathing and an opportunity to become still, turn your awareness inward, and experience what I call God’s Fresh Air.
You don’t have to keep suffocating in what you’re feeling.
Strategically examine yourself so you can recognize what you’re carrying. Then have faith in God’s air to bring you internal comfort.
I wish you love and life, and iPray you continue to be blessed by The Breath of Fresh Air.

What if the toxic behavior that hurt you could become the very thing that inspires your greatness? In this pilot episode of the Breath of Fresh Air Podcast, we explore toxic relationships, emotional awareness, personal growth, healing, self-improvement, and the importance of becoming intentional about what you allow into your mind, body, and life. Instead of becoming what hurt you, learn how to recognize the negative words, experiences, habits, and behaviors you have inhaled throughout you life, and intentionally exhale what longer gives life.
