In May 1977, Immanuel and Rachel David moved their seven children into an eleventh-floor suite at Salt Lake City’s International Dunes Hotel. The children rarely ventured outside, received no conventional schooling, and appeared to live entirely within the world their father had constructed.

Born Charles Bruce Longo, Immanuel David claimed to be a prophet and eventually declared himself to be God. Around twenty people accepted his teachings, contributed money, and became members of what became known as the Family of David. As federal investigators examined fraudulent fundraising connected to his followers, Immanuel disappeared into the mountains outside Salt Lake City.

Three days later, Rachel gathered the couple’s seven children inside their hotel suite. Before that morning ended, the David family would become the center of one of the darkest and most haunting events in Utah history.

This episode examines the rise of Immanuel David, the isolation of his family, and the beliefs that continued to exert their influence long after his death.

Twenty nine year old Tiffany Moss stood trial on April 15, 2019 for the 2013 death of her 10 year old stepdaughter, Emani Moss. Emani’s father, Eman Moss, did nothing while Tiffany systematically starved, neglected, and abused his daughter, and later helped to cover up the murder. Emani was described as a precious and happy child who always had a smile on her face, by everyone that knew and loved her. At age three, she studied ballet and when she was 5 years old, she took guitar lessons. She did everything in her power to escape her abusive situation and was removed at one time, but was returned time and time again.

The details of this case are disturbing and graphic and involves heinous crimes against a child. Discretion is advised.

Raytown is a city in Jacksonville County, Missouri with a population of 30,000. One of those 30,000 was Ann Marie Harrison, age 15 at the time this story begins. Ann was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 22nd 1974. She was a sophomore honor student at Raytown South High School, Ann attended church with her parents and two sisters, and played on a softball league. She graduated from BGM High School in 2017 and was pursuing a degree in psychology at the University of Iowa, driven by her dream of becoming a child psychologist to help children struggling with mental health issues.

Mollie loved life, and it showed in everything she did. She excelled in writing and speech, sharing her thoughts on complex topics like mental health and self-esteem. She made friends everywhere she went, and children adored her. She worked at a summer camp where her laughter and warmth left a lasting impression. She was a runner, a dancer, an actor, and a singer. But above all, Mollie was a young woman filled with kindness, ambition, and an undeniable joy for life.
