#35 CHEER COACHES: Everything I Use to Coach Cheer From My Car

I used to coach inside an all-star gym with a sprung floor, tumble tracks, crash mats and equipment everywhere.

Now, I coach at a different location almost every day—and everything I need has to fit inside my car.

In this episode, I’m sharing the portable equipment I actually use to run cheerleading and tumbling classes in schools, churches, halls and other suitable spaces.

We’re talking folding mats, inflatable equipment, cones, pom-poms, balance work and three very important team members: Jaws the shark, Crush the turtle and Hank the octopus.

I explain how the teddies help younger athletes remember their routine sections, how cones prepare my teams for the lines on a competition floor and why I occasionally hire a fully equipped cheer gym rather than trying to own everything myself.

I’m also discussing the constant mobile-coach debate: do I genuinely need this new piece of equipment, or do I just really want it?

All activities must be appropriate for the athletes, coaching qualifications and environment. Tumbling and stunting require suitable surfaces, mats, supervision and risk controls.
