#30 CHEER COACHES: Private Tumbling Lessons | How to Create Progress That Lasts

A private tumbling lesson shouldn’t stop being useful the moment the coach goes home.

In this episode, I’m sharing my favourite way to structure private tumbling lessons when I don’t have access to a fully equipped all-star gym.

Whenever it is safe and practical, I like to work with the space and equipment the athlete can genuinely access between sessions. That allows me to create personalised drills, record demonstrations and give the athlete a realistic plan they can continue following afterwards.

I explain how I organise the lesson, use video and slow-motion playback, involve parents without turning them into coaches and help athletes understand what they should work on next.

I also share how one athlete progressed towards her back walkover after consistently practising the personalised drills we had recorded during her private lesson.

Tumbling should always be taught by a suitably qualified coach in an appropriate environment. Home practice should be limited to drills the coach has assessed as safe for that athlete, space and equipment, with appropriate adult supervision.
