Ep28 Pumpkins, Sparklers and Diwali Lights

27m | Oct 30, 2026

In this episode of Chai & Chat, Sundari and Ranjit celebrate the sights, sounds and traditions that make autumn such a colourful time of year.

From Harvest Festival displays and school memories to Halloween costumes, Bonfire Night sparklers and the warmth of Diwali, we look back at the seasonal celebrations that shaped our childhoods. Ranjit shares memories of growing up in Britain, while Sundari reflects on a very different experience in Malaysia, where the familiar cycle of autumn leaves, dark evenings and winter celebrations simply did not exist in the same way.

Along the way, we talk about pumpkins, fireworks, family traditions, food, school celebrations and the sometimes chaotic ways different festivals overlap at this time of year.

A warm and nostalgic episode about culture, childhood and celebration, and how the rituals we grow up with help shape our sense of season, family and belonging.
