I learned she had a new book coming out about how to build your brand and knew she would be a fantastic guest for my listeners. Alison is a huge advocate for women supporting and cheerleading for other women, which is one of the many reasons I wanted to support her book launch and get her on the show!
Alison shares what her journey was like as a first time author writing her book and the pros and cons of traditional vs. self vs. hybrid publishing. She shares great tips on how to maximize creating video content and how many CEO's just don't understand the amount of work and the importance of committing to using social media to successfully build your brand. She talks about the importance of authenticity and always being aware of the impact, both good and bad, that can result from what we post online and why organizations need to have a PR Crisis plan in place long before there's even an issue. We talk about the pressure in broadcast media, particularly on women, as to physical appearance, weight, and the expectation to maintain an almost impossible standard in an industry ripe with ageism. We talk about when the haters come (whenever you shine your light they are guaranteed to surface), how other women can be THE WORST in that regard, how social media has contributed to keyboard warriors and how to handle them when they come for you. We also talk about the stress of raising our daughters with so much social media around them and how to help them navigate the anxiety, bullying and exclusion that often comes with it.
