Six-year-old Katherine Korzilius asked her mom if she could walk home from the neighborhood mailbox by herself. It was a short walk—less than a quarter of a mile—and one she had made before so her mom agreed.

But Katherine never made it home.

Within minutes, an ordinary summer afternoon became every parent's worst nightmare. And what investigators would uncover over the next several hours would leave an entire community searching for answers. Was this simply a heartbreaking accident? Or had someone intentionally targeted a six-year-old little girl just steps from her own front door?
