- Matilda Boseley: Chore charms, TikTok & moral panic in the media
Episode 166 with Matilda Boseley.
“I missed it, my teachers missed it, my parents missed it, my therapist missed it, my doctors missed it, but TikTok figured it out in a couple of weeks.”
Matilda is an award-winning social media reporter and presenter for Guardian Australia. Based in Melbourne, she has spearheaded the publication’s popular TikTok channel where she writes and hosts their short-form news explainers.
She regularly reports on issues affecting young people, women and mental health, and her first book, The Year I Met My Brain, documents her experiences and discoveries after being diagnosed with ADHD at 23 and investigates the hidden prevalence and costs of ADHD among adults.
We talk about how TikTok diagnosed her with ADHD, her viral video of her chore charms, and what made her decide to write a book about her diagnosis journey. We also talk about some of the media backlash against the recent rise in ADHD diagnoses, as well as about a thousand other rapid-fire topics because that’s what we do on this podcast.
Matilda explains her theory on “land brains” vs “ocean brains” and I basically had zero chill and just gush the whole time because I’m such a huge fan of Matilda’s work!

Episode 165 with Brooke Schnittman.
“You try to accommodate and please everyone and it ends up biting you in the ass because you're the one who suffers.”
Brooke is a compassionate ADHD coach who has worked alongside ADHDers and their families since 2006. However, Brooke herself wasn’t officially diagnosed with ADHD until 2019.
She now runs Coaching with Brooke, an international coaching organization based in Boca Raton, FL, and she has rapidly become a leading global authority in the field of ADHD coaching.
She has been featured in magazines and websites such as Forbes, Entrepreneur, ADDitude, and CHADD. Her work has also been featured on news outlets such as CBS, NBC, and FOX. She also hosts the SuccessFULL With ADHD podcast and runs the popular Instagram account, @coachingwithbrooke.
We talk about her new book, Activate Your ADHD Potential: A 12-Step Journey from Chaos to Confidence for Adults with ADHD, as well as her trademarked 3C activation program. We also talk about building and maintaining momentum, and moving past ADHD underwhelm, overwhelm, and other ADHD disruptors.
I’ve been trying to get Brooke on this podcast for years now, so I’m so glad we could finally make this work — it’s a fantastic conversation (no surprise there), and I know you’ll love what she has to say so here is my conversation with Brooke!

Episode 164 with Gemma Wilson.
“Women with ADHD live our lives on edge. We’re constantly thinking, Am I doing the right thing? Am I saying the right thing? Am I being inappropriate?”
Gemma is a 41-year-old mum of 3 from Newcastle upon Tyne in the north of England. She is a business owner and describes herself as “a perfectionist and over-achiever who won’t settle for anything less than what I deserve.”
Gemma is a listener of the podcast and she reached out to me because she wanted to share her journey through her ADHD diagnosis and its link with her diagnosis of fibromyalgia. There’s a significant co-morbidity between ADHD and fibromyalgia.
Gemma wrote to me: “I have been through a huge raft of experiences with different treatments to try and get to the root cause of my pain. I have been at the depths of despair with my mental and physical health and honestly thought I was destined for immobility and incapacity — but somehow, I’ve managed to find things that help.”
Gemma & I talk about what it’s like for her to live with chronic pain, a distressed nervous system, depression, anxiety, and ADHD, and how she’s been able to find a path through it all when it comes to self-advocacy, seeking help, and avoiding burnout.

Episode 162 with Terry Matlen.
“I had significant anxiety as a child. I had school phobia, I didn't want to go to school. I had no idea it was related to undiagnosed, untreated ADHD.”
Terry Matlen, LMSW, ACSW, is a psychotherapist, author, consultant, coach, and an internationally recognized expert on ADHD in women.
She is the author of the award-winning book, "The Queen of Distraction” and "Survival Tips for Women with AD/HD", and runs www.ADDconsults.com, an international online resource serving women with ADHD, where she offers one-on-one ADHD consultations; www.QueensOfDistraction, an online coaching program for women with ADHD, and www.GetADHDhelp.com, an online ADHD directory.
With over 25 years of experience helping women with ADHD, Terry is a sought-after presenter at conferences and webinars and has authored hundreds of articles.
I had lots of questions for Terry and pick her brain about all sorts of things, including emotional intensity and ADHD, especially when it comes to the anxiety around what’s currently happening in the world. We talk about sensory sensitivities, self-regulation, and self-care as women and mothers, and I ask Terry what she thinks about the recent increase in ADHD diagnoses.
It was a real pleasure to be able to chat with an expert in the field who has such curiosity, generosity and energy!

Episode 161 with Alice Gendron.
“There are so many doubts. I can wake up convinced I have ADHD. But by the time I go to bed, I’m like, No, I’m just lazy.”
Alice is an artist and freelance writer from Bordeaux, France. Her diagnosis of ADHD at the age of 29 changed her life, and inspired her to help others. If you don’t recognize the name, you will most definitely recognize the sweet little pink haired icon behind her popular social media account The Mini ADHD Coach.
Alice and I talk about her diagnosis and what led her to create her lovely little ADHD character, and how that first little doodle has led to an immense platform, her workbook, planner, and now her book, “The Mini ADHD Coach: How to Finally Understand Yourself.”
We also talk about some of the stigma surrounding an ADHD in France, and Alice shares how important it is for her to create content in other languages besides English as we all expand our understanding of what it’s like to live with ADHD in all countries and cultures around the world.

Episode 160 with Emily Weinberg. [Replay].
Welcome to the final installment of my special Top 10 Replay series, where I’m re-releasing 10 interviews that really stood out to me and have stayed with me in some particular way — either because of the topic, or the conversation, or the feedback I received from listeners. For various reasons, I’ve chosen 10 episodes that I feel deserve a replay — so maybe you missed this one the first time around you’ll get a chance to hear it, or if you listened to it when it originally aired, I hope you’ll enjoy listening to it again.
This week I’m re-releasing my interview with Emily Weinberg, which originally aired as Episode 122 in January of 2023. This interview has been one of my most popular to date, and it’s a really good one! Emily and I talk about how lost and stuck we can feel and what it’s like to not even remotely feel close to having it all together.
Bonus Update:
Make sure to stick around because, at the end of the episode, I get a chance to check back in with Emily and find out what she’s been up to since we first spoke. Emily is now an ADHD coach herself and she shares some of the subtle shifts in her life that have led to significant change.

Welcome back to my special Top 10 Replay series, where I’m re-releasing 10 interviews that really stood out to me and have stayed with me in some particular way — either because of the topic, or the conversation, or the feedback I received from listeners. For various reasons, I’ve chosen 10 episodes that I feel deserve a replay — so maybe you missed this one the first time around you’ll get a chance to hear it, or if you listened to it when it originally aired, I hope you’ll enjoy listening to it again.
This week I’m re-releasing my interview with Alejandra Kottke, which originally aired as Episode 12 in February of 2021. This episode was very early in the podcast, and it was the feedback I got for this episode that made me realize I had really stumbled into something truly special and magical. Suddenly women were writing to me from all over the world, saying they were brought to tears by these episodes because of how seen and understood they felt as a result of these conversations.
I remember how nervous Alejandra was for the episode to air because of how vulnerable she had been, but as often happens, it was a cathartic experience for her, and she was thrilled that other women related to her story.
Bonus Update:
Make sure to stick around because, at the end of the episode, I get a chance to check back in with Alejandra and find out what she’s been up to since her diagnosis. Alejandra is now coaching others and working in ministry through her church and showing up fully and embracing her unique brain.

This week I’m re-releasing my interview with Jess Keogh, which originally aired as Episode 33 in May of 2021. This episode was still early in the podcast, and Jess was the first guest I had on my show who sought a diagnosis as a result of my podcast and my Instagram account. I was so thrilled and touched (and honestly a little scared) by this revelation, and Jess so beautifully and eloquently described the adult diagnosis experience as a woman. She’s so lovely and funny and we had a ton of laughs, so this episode has really stayed with me and I feel it deserves a replay.

Episode 156 with Nelly Lin & Juno Lee. [Replay].
This week I’m re-releasing my interview with Nelly Lin & Juno Lee, which originally aired as Episode 38 in June of 2021. I discovered Nelly & Juno through their podcast Two Addys and a Coffee, Please. I listened to every episode and just fell in love with them and their friendship and their honest and vulnerable banter and all of their f-bombs, so I decided to interview them together and it was a real treat. I chose this episode because our conversation about the anxiety and perfectionism that come along with ADHD has really stayed with me, and it was really eye-opening to listen to their experiences as Asian American women with ADHD.
While they haven’t recorded an episode in quite a while, the podcast is still out there and it’s as fabulous as ever. Sincere thanks to Nelly and Juno for what they’ve put out into the world, and for the mark they’ve left on me. I trust they are both doing great things wherever they are now!

Episode 155 with Sarah Wheeler. [Replay].
This week I’m re-releasing my interview with Dr. Sarah Wheeler, which originally aired as Episode 98 in August of 2022. I chose this episode with Sarah because I think it’s probably one of the most entertaining interviews I’ve had — Sarah is hilarious and we had such a fun time. But she’s also really perceptive and thoughtful and a lot of what we discussed stayed with me, plus I got a lot of positive feedback and a lot of “me too!”s when this originally aired.
Bonus Update:
Make sure to stick around because, at the end of the episode, I check back in with Sarah to talk about what she’s up to now, including some of her recent writings about women and ADHD, which are linked in the show notes, and some more of her brilliant observations about ADHD and neurodivergence.

Sarah’s recent articles:
“I’m A Psychologist Who Specialized In ADHD. Everything I Knew About It Was Wrong”
“A new study shows the benefits of an accurate ADHD diagnosis — so why can't women get one?”

Episode 154 with Anna Lopez. [Replay].
Welcome back to my special Top 10 Replay series, where I’m re-releasing 10 interviews that really stood out to me and have stayed with me in some particular way — either because of the topic, the conversation, or the feedback I received from listeners. I’ve chosen 10 episodes that I feel deserve a replay — so hopefully if you missed this one the first time around you’ll get a chance to hear it, or if you listened to it when it originally aired, I hope you’ll enjoy listening to it again.
This week I’m re-releasing my interview with Anna Lopez, which originally aired as Episode 29 in April of 2021. This episode was transformative for me in many ways — Anna was the first psychotherapist I interviewed for the podcast, and I had so many questions and she was game for all of them. I was particularly interested in her perspective on diagnosis and her thoughts on the recent uptick in diagnoses in adult women. Anna is so interesting and brilliant and she has so much curiosity and thoughtfulness
Bonus Update:
Make sure to stick around because, at the end of the episode, I check back in with Anna to talk about the work she’s doing now, especially her somatic therapy work. We also discuss the fact that we’ve both self-identified as autistic since our initial interview and the parallels in terms of self-diagnosis vs. formal diagnosis.

Welcome back to my special Top 10 Replay series, where I’m re-releasing 10 interviews that really stood out to me and have stayed with me in some particular way — either because of the topic, or the conversation, or the feedback I received from listeners. I’ve chosen 10 episodes that I feel deserve a replay — so hopefully if you missed this one the first time around you’ll get a chance to hear it, or if you listened to it when it originally aired, I hope you’ll enjoy listening to it again.
This week I’m re-releasing my interview with Taucha Post, which originally aired as Episode 18 in March of 2021.
I reached out to Taucha because she was on Instagram as @adhd.yoga and I wanted to talk about the benefits of yoga and mindfulness when you have ADHD — and we do talk a lot about that — but what really stayed with me after this conversation was her vulnerability as we talked about school and work and difficulties balancing multiple tasks and the different ways that has affected us in our lives. Taucha is so delightful — I instantly fell in love with her and I know you will, too.
Bonus Update:
Make sure to stick around because the end of the episode, I check back in with Taucha to get an update on her life since the original interview. Not only is Taucha a mom now, she and her husband bought a house, and she is a newly-certified ADHD coach. We talk about her decision to go into ADHD coaching and her plans for the future! I’m so excited for Taucha’s new path and for all of her future clients — she’s a real gem!

Episode 152 with Raegan Cotton. [Replay]
This week I’m re-releasing my interview with Raegan Cotton, which originally aired as Episode 21 in December of 2021.
Raegan had reached out to me because she had been an avid listener of the podcast and while she related to many of the stories of my more seasoned guests, she wanted to share the perspective of a 20-something who had recently graduated college, was facing independence and young adulthood and had recently been diagnosed.
Plus, a lot of younger listeners reached out at the time to express their appreciation for this episode — and Raegan is so wise and thoughtful and insightful and adults of any age will relate to her story.
Bonus Update:
Make sure to stick around because the end of the episode, I check back in with Raegan to see what’s changed for her since the original interview, including her advocacy and non-profit work, and what it’s been like going off her parents insurance and navigating the medication shortages in the US.

Episode 151 with Kerry Mead. [Replay]
Welcome to my Top 10 Replay series, featuring 10 of my favorite past episodes!
After reaching the milestone of 150 interviews with women with ADHD, I've been reflecting back on this anthology and decided I'd like to re-release some of the interviews that have stayed close to my heart in some particular way — either because of the topic, or the vulnerability of the conversation, or some particular nuggets of wisdom that have deeply affected my way of thinking.
I’ve chosen 10 episodes that I feel deserve a replay — in the hopes that maybe you missed this one the first time around you’ll get a chance to hear it, or if you listened to it when it originally aired, I hope you’ll enjoy listening to it again!
First up, my interview with Kerry Meed, which originally aired as Episode 21 in March of 2021. I think the reason why this conversation has stayed with me so much is because of how raw and openly we spoke about the trials of being a mom with ADHD, especially during the pandemic and lockdown. I found it incredibly validating and healing, as did many listeners!
Bonus Update:
At the end of this re-released episode, Kerry gives us an update on how she’s doing, how her kids are doing, how her Master’s is going, and whether she’s still writing that book. We also get into it again about the NHS in the UK and the current state of ADHD diagnoses.

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy59m | Aug 14, 2023 - Emily Jankowski Newton: Perinatal mood disorders & parenting with ADHD
Episode 149 with Emily Jankowski Newton.
“We tend to talk about ADHD likes it’s an academic issue but it’s so much more than that. If your kids aren’t struggling academically, they're probably struggling socially.”
Emily is a passionate perinatal mental health advocate, and the Director of the Climb Out of the Darkness Program with Postpartum Support International (PSI). Attending a local Climb Out of the Darkness event helped connect her with other parents, find the help she needed, and was the beginning of something incredible. A combination of treatments including talk therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes helped her recover from Postpartum Anxiety, Depression & OCD. Now Emily works tirelessly raising awareness, building community and connecting folks worldwide to life-changing perinatal mental health resources.
Emily is also the co-host of the I Am One podcast, where PSI staff and volunteers reflect on their own lived experience during the perinatal period (pregnancy + postpartum).
Emily was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 8, but was told she would outgrow it (spoiler alert: she did NOT). We talk about navigating ADHD and pregnancy and babies, as well as our experiences with perinatal depression and anxiety. We also talk about the experience of being neurodivergent parents to neurodivergent kids.
If you struggled with the transition to being a parent, or struggled with depression and anxiety with a baby or a young child, you do not want to miss this raw and deeply personal interview!

Episode 148 with Meg Casebolt.
“I went into my doctor's office and said, ‘I think I have ADHD. I printed out the checklist. I filled it out. And then I left it on my desk.’”
Meg is the founder of Love At First Search, an agency singularly devoted to helping online businesses get found in search results (like Google, YouTube & iTunes) & turn those new readers into leads, subscribers and sales. Meg loves to help business owners spend less time trying to hack the algorithms and instead creates SEO content that attracts their ideal audience to your website while helping entrepreneurs cut their dependency on social media for their business visibility.
We talk all about running businesses with ADHD, time management, and Meg’s new book. We also talk about SEO practices, digital marketing, and how to cut back or break up entirely from social media.
Also, we talk quite a bit about AI tools, so when I ask Meg what she might call ADHD, she suggested I consult ChatGPT. So, I decided to ask ChatGPT what it would call a condition based on my list of the 60 “not so obvious” traits from my “Hey, it’s ADHD!” online course.
Here are the 5 alternate names ChatGPT would give ADHD:
- Time Perception Deficiency Disorder
- Chronic Emotional Overwhelm and Impulsivity
- Executive Dysfunction Hyperactivity Syndrome
- Impulsive Focus-Attention Impairment
- Inattentive Emotional Dysregulation

Episode 147 with Morgan Meredith.
“My therapist had me make a list of the things I love about myself and a list of things I wish I could change. So many things about me were on both lists.”
Morgan is a “gifted kid” turned ADHD entrepreneur, as well as the founder of AccountableHero, a service that helps coaches streamline their entire business into one platform and turn software frustration into confidence and ease.
We talk all about how AI tools can be helpful for neurodivergent brains, especially ChatGPT and Goblin Tools. We also discuss her positive experiences with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for her depression.
Morgan is also the wizard behind the creation of my “Hey, it’s ADHD!” online course. She’s also a graduate of my group coaching program, and we talk all about her experience with my group coaching program and how her life has been transformed as a result.
