The national news networks weren’t calling David Bernknopf with job offers anymore. If fact, they weren’t calling many journalists anymore.
So, after decades working at CNN and other national news operations, he took the only solid job offer he had: running a small investigative unit for Alaska’s News Source, a consortium of TV stations in “The Last Frontier.”
After two years learning how to survive the cold, the dark, the light and a totally unfamiliar culture, David wrote a fictionalized account of his time there: Two Years on Another Planet…or is it Alaska?
The novel provides a wry look at working far away from everyone you know…as well as many things you thought you knew. “Northern Exposure” in a TV newsroom, if you remember.
Bernknopf was an original CNN employee and covered politics, world affairs and economic stories for the network. He produced for Christiane Amanpour, Bernard Shaw and other well-known CNN talent for more than two decades. His last job at CNN was site producer at the scene of the United 93 crash on 9/11. His career also included a stint as a news producer for a nationally syndicated program produced out of Washington, DC and time running a video production company in Atlanta.
