Make A Dollar For Somebody Else
39m | Oct 26, 2026Anthony Celano, retired police detective and author, on why 90% of his communication training came down to one thing:
"90% of that was about perception, because people don't perceive how they look, or their tone, or their inflection, or how they're standing."
Not the words.
The delivery.
"They either overuse certain traits that they have, or they underuse them.
Or sometimes they mix up when to use them... And you only get that through experience."
And it starts with knowing who you're talking to.
"You have to understand your audience.
So you're dealing with somebody 80 years old, you can't expect that person to behave like somebody 25 or 30."
Lisa Rosenthal's point: they've had their own life experience, and cultures change.
Tony's reply: it works the other way too.
"An older person, you can't expect somebody 25 to think the way you think."
This episode goes deep into:
- Why perception drives communication
- Tone, inflection and body language
- Overusing and underusing your natural traits
