When the Science Doesn’t Fit: Who Participates in EEG Research?
13m | Sep 21, 2026What happens when the tools we use to study the brain aren’t designed for everyone? In this episode, we go inside the EEG lab at Mount Saint Vincent University to talk with Dr. Christine Lackner about EEG research, and how traditional equipment has systemically excluded people with thick, curly, and coiled hair, hair types which are more common among Black individuals. We explore why inclusive research isn’t just about fairness or the recruitment process, which are both incredibly important; it’s also about the equipment you use to make the science more rigorous, representative, and meaningful.
