• How do you know whether God is speaking to you—or you're simply hearing what you want to hear?

That distinction matters when you're considering a new job, moving, leaving a church, starting a ministry, making a major financial decision, or determining the direction of your life.

In this episode, Pastor Bill and Dennis discuss how believers can discern the voice of God versus the voice of the flesh.

One of the biggest dangers is deciding what we want first and then searching Scripture, circumstances, and other people until we find something that confirms it.

An open door doesn't necessarily mean God opened it.

A strong desire doesn't necessarily mean God gave it.

Someone agreeing with you doesn't necessarily mean you've received confirmation.

And feeling comfortable certainly doesn't prove you're in God's will.

Using Abraham's journey as a major example, the conversation examines times when Abraham moved ahead of God, made wrong decisions, and was graciously redirected. It also looks at Cain and Abel and the danger of bringing God what we have determined is good instead of surrendering to what God says is good.

Pastor Bill and Dennis identify several things that can work together when discerning God's direction:

    • A desire God has placed upon your heart
    • An open door to move forward
    • Agreement with God's Word
    • Confirmation through godly counsel
    • The peace that surpasses understanding

But underneath all of them is something even more important: the condition and motivation of our heart.

Are we genuinely seeking God's answer?

Or are we asking God to approve the answer we've already chosen?

Jesus said His sheep know His voice. Learning that voice requires time in Scripture, prayer, fellowship, godly counsel, and actually walking with the Shepherd.

Don't simply ask God to bless your decision. Seek Him until you're willing to follow His.

  • Why Christians Need to Read the Bible

Why is reading and studying the Bible so important—and why do so many Christians struggle to actually do it?

In this episode, Pastor Bill, Dave, and Dennis discuss the difference between simply reading words and truly hearing God’s Word in a way that changes how we live. The conversation moves from Bible translations and original languages to context, interpretation, spiritual growth, and the Hebrew concept of Shema—hearing that leads to response and obedience.

    This episode explores:

    • Why every Christian needs to study Scripture personally
    • Can we trust modern Bible translations?
    • Thought-for-thought versus more literal translations
    • Why Greek and Hebrew word meanings matter
    • How language changes our understanding of Scripture
    • The danger of taking verses out of context
    • Why you shouldn't simply take your pastor's word for it
    • Reading Scripture without forcing your own beliefs into it
    • The Hebrew concept of Shema
    • Hearing God's Word versus actually responding to it
    • Why reading the Bible should produce transformation
    • Christian liberty versus asking, "Is this profitable?"
    • Conviction, obedience, and spiritual growth
    • Why genuine change happens from the inside out
    • Studying Scripture to know God—not simply to accumulate information

The Bible isn't meant merely to make us more knowledgeable about God. Scripture should draw us into a deeper relationship with Him and expose the areas of our lives that need to come into alignment with Him.

Don't just be a hearer of the Word. Become a doer.

  • Are We Really in the End Times? | How Can We Know for Sure?

For decades, Christians have been saying we're living in the end times. Many people have become numb to the conversation, asking, "Haven't believers always said that?"

    So how can we know?

In this episode of the Son Country Community Church Podcast, Pastor Bill, Dave, and Dennis examine what Scripture actually says about the last days. Rather than chasing headlines or sensational predictions, they look at biblical patterns, prophecy, and Jesus' own warnings to answer one important question: Are we truly living in the end times, or are we fooling ourselves?

    This discussion covers:

    • Are we really living in the last days?
    • Jesus' warning: "Take heed that no one deceives you"
    • Matthew 24 and the signs of the times
    • The days of Noah as a prophetic pattern
    • Why many Christians have become complacent
    • How deception is increasing in our culture
    • The danger of following teachers instead of Scripture
    • Being Bereans (Acts 17:11)
    • Dispensationalism, covenant theology, and keeping the main thing the main thing
    • The rapture, resurrection, and biblical hope
    • Why prophecy should point us to Christ—not distract us from Him
    • Living ready instead of living afraid

The goal of biblical prophecy is not fear—it is preparation. Jesus repeatedly told His followers to watch, stay awake, and remain faithful because no one knows the day or the hour, but we can recognize the season.

  • Covenant Confusion: The Trap of Law vs. Grace

Is your faith starting to feel like backbreaking labor—like moving tons of heavy rock one shovel at a time? 🪨

In today’s podcast, Pastor Bill and Pastor Dave dig into "covenant confusion," the rise of Torah keeping, and the balancing act between legalism and grace.

It’s easy to check off religious boxes (reading X chapters, avoiding certain foods, or keeping traditions) while completely missing heart transformation. But as Pastor Dave shares in a personal story from his own backyard, when we stop staring at the heavy rocks of our own effort and look UP, we realize God’s grace has us covered.

Key takeaways in this episode: ➡️ Avoiding the two ditches of legalism and hyper-grace ➡️ Why checking boxes is easier for the flesh than actual heart change ➡️ The difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing His voice ➡️ The SPECK method for practical, daily Bible study

  • Don’t Be Deceived: Prophecy, Fear, and Staying Focused on Jesus in the Last Days

In this episode, we look at current times, Bible prophecy, deception, and the believer’s need to remain focused on Jesus Christ. With so many voices creating fear, confusion, and speculation, it is vital to return to the words of Jesus: “Take heed that no one deceives you.”

This conversation explores end-times awareness, biblical discernment, faith in action, and the importance of reading Scripture with hunger, context, and understanding. If you’ve been overwhelmed by news, prophecy claims, or fear-based teaching, this study will help refocus your heart on the Lord and the truth of His Word.

  • The Ten Commandments Aren’t a Checklist — They’re Covenant “Ten Words”

Are the “Ten Commandments” meant to be a discouraging list of do’s and don’ts—or are we missing the heart of what God was saying? In this conversation, we unpack the “Ten Words” (as the Hebrew frames it) as covenant language—not a report card.

Instead of obsessing over “don’t, don’t, don’t,” we ask the deeper question: What heart issue is being exposed? When temptation hits (stealing, coveting, lying, etc.), it’s not just behavior management—it’s a revelation of where trust has shifted off of God. The goal isn’t to “fix yourself” by willpower; it’s to realign with the Lord, renew the mind, and let identity in Christ reshape output.

If you’ve ever felt beat down by legalism—or confused about grace vs obedience—this one will reset your framework.

Scripture threads referenced: Exodus 20, Deuteronomy (heart-level), John 14:15, Romans 8:1, Psalm 42:5, Psalm 119, Galatians (law vs grace), “hunger and thirst for righteousness.”

Today’s episode is a candid, real conversation about trials, authenticity, and why believers need fellowship. When life is hard, the enemy often whispers: “You’re the only one going through this.” That lie isolates—and isolation weakens.

We talk about the danger of putting on a church “mask,” how comparison creates discouragement (and pride), and why the goal isn’t just to “leave it at the door,” but to bring it to the Lord and lay it on the altar—without conditions.

Many people say they “have faith,” but the Bible defines faith as support under pressure, not superficial belief. We unpack Hebrews 11:1, connect it to Exodus 17, and explain how trials expose what you’re really standing on.

    In this episode:

    • Why “faith” is more than head knowledge
    • Faith as support/substance (Hebrews 11:1)
