- #491: Miami Week 2 Preview vs FAMU | It's Broken for Today
Miami's home opener spread against Florida A&M is up near 56 and a half, and Ro, Scoop, Toast, and Jenners open the show wondering if that's even a real point spread or just a weather advisory. From there it's a full lap around the sport: the Hurricanes get snubbed out of a Top 25 ballot entirely (an actual human forgot to include them), Nick Saban goes on College GameDay and picks Miami to win the national title, and the guys spend a long stretch on why Malachi Toney has turned into the best receiver in the country, Michael Irvin audio included.
There's real injury news mixed into the chaos, too. OJ's shoulder situation gets a timeline (probably not back until November), and the crew works through what that means for a secondary that's also missing Antoine and leaning on a true freshman. On the national side, Sam Darnold goes down with a hip injury in the opener, which somehow turns into the show's title. Clemson gets run out of its own building in an ACC-opener disaster, and Florida State's stadium lights go dark on national TV, kicking off a long, detailed breakdown of just how broke that athletic department actually is.
Football gets a real preview too: Florida A&M lines, player props, over/unders, keys to the game, and score predictions for tonight, plus a full slate of Week 2 games around the country including the Ohio State-Texas showdown in Austin. Weekly picks standings get updated, and the guys close with a look ahead to Wake Forest.
Basically: rankings drama, receiver worship, a coordinator you've never heard of who's quietly great, and a stadium that can't keep the lights on. Business as usual.

Miami didn’t just beat Stanford, they made a statement — 45‑6 on the road to open the season, and Ro, Jenners, Scoop, and Toast are still trying to process what they watched. This one’s mostly about Malachi Toney, who put up 234 yards and 3 touchdowns and was out of the game by the third quarter, and Darian Mensah, who completed 90% of his passes in his Miami debut and made every throw look like a handoff.
The guys break down the offensive line’s guard competition, the running back situation (including where Jordan Lyle stood on gameday), and the new personnel groupings Shannon Dawson rolled out. On the other side of the ball, they dig into why Corey Heatherman’s defense held Stanford to six points despite giving up some chunk plays, why Chase Smith’s linebacker play got wrongly criticized on social media, and how 13 true freshmen found their way onto the field in a true road conference opener.
There’s also a real debate about whether this Miami offense belongs in the conversation with the program’s best‑ever units, some very early points‑per‑game math for the season, a total left‑turn into a Kelly Clarkson K‑pop cover, and Ro sharing a personal story from his high school coaching gig the same weekend.

HERE. WE. GO!
Miami opens the season on the road, and the guys break down every angle of Friday night's trip to Stanford before the picks come in. Ro, Scoop and Toast get into the number seven Hurricanes laying 24 and a half against a Cardinal team missing four cornerbacks and a chunk of their starting front, plus what Stanford's surprisingly efficient outing against Hawaii actually means heading into this one.
From there it's a full breakdown of the Miami offensive line battle up front, where last year's starters are gone and two true freshman guards could see the field together for the first time. Darian Mensah gets the Heisman-watch treatment, with Josh Pate's early top-10 quarterback rankings sparking some pushback, and the crew lays out why Shannon Dawson's scheme is finally built for a guy who can push the ball downfield.
The second half turns into vintage OBB: game props on personnel groupings, sacks and third-down conversions, a Lane Kiffin and LSU legal fight over NFL eligibility rules, way too much time spent on The Sopranos, and the strangest sports story of the week involving a fake NFL player and a six-figure romance scam. Ro also brings receipts from his new gig as a high school coach, rattlesnakes and all.
It all wraps with three keys to the game from each host and the full slate of Week 1 picks against the spread, capped off by Miami-Stanford score predictions ahead of Friday's 9 PM kickoff.

Okay, NOW it's the final Benched of the year!... So instead of watchlists, predictions, or NFL nonsense... we're talking about Darth Vader, offensive Halloween costumes, legendary wedding vows and Oreo-Chicken burgers!... Welcome to the FINAL OBB Benched of the offseason!
Jenners breaks down the Target Halloween costume controversy and the ad that torched Good Good Golf's entire brand overnight, then things get properly unhinged — Baylen Dupree's wedding vows clip, a Flock camera protester dressed as Darth Vader, a South Florida weatherman who couldn't hold it together live on air, and a kids' show moment that was definitely not meant for kids.
Also on deck: KFC's new Oreo chicken burger (China only, unfortunately for the rest of us), and the crew closes out the off-season with their final round of Five Questions.

It's the last show of the offseason and Ro, Scoop and Toast run back the Nick Saban and Mario Cristobal audio that dropped the same day last week, then get into whether the ACC has enough teams built to actually go toe-to-toe with the SEC. The take: Mario might be part of the problem, since Miami is currently sitting on eight of the ACC's top 10 recruits and starving the rest of the conference.
From there the guys hit their nationwide storylines heading into the year — Arch Manning and whether Texas finally breaks through, a Virginia Tech team they're genuinely excited about under James Franklin, and the Florida State coaching search with no obvious answer once Norvell is gone. They also get into the NCAA's new rule blocking players who were on active pro rosters from returning to college ball, and the mess it's already causing at LSU under Lane Kiffin.
Also: an NFL owner's rough week makes headlines, the Dolphins' dead money situation gets roasted, and the crew closes with three Week Zero picks before locking in an episode title live on the show.

We miscounted... so there is actually one more show to go after this one! So instead of rankings, predictions or hype... we're talking about beaver meat, dirty fighting, Chucky look-alikes and unforeseen street closures... welcome to OBB Benched!
Ro, Jenners, Scoop and Toast are back for the penultimate Benched of the offseason, and this one's a grab bag: a local news anchor losing it over beaver meat, a stadium brawl with commentary that sounds exactly like Bill Burr, and a costumed street chaser in Philadelphia who picked the wrong woman to mess with.
Also in the mix: a firehouse in DC gets shut down over a very not-a-bomb, a QVC caller has had enough, and the guys close it out with Five Questions covering a 24-hour song on loop, when someone actually becomes an adult, the dumbest reason they've heard for a divorce, culture shock stories from three different continents, and the one thing they're each glad they did once and will never do again.

Ro, Scoop and Toast finally put their names on the board with official Week 1 through Week 13 predictions for the Miami Hurricanes—and yes, everyone lands on 11-and-1. The guys react to Miami's No. 7 preseason AP ranking (with one lone first-place vote), argue over which other top-10 team is due for a letdown, and make the case for why the Canes might actually be the most underrated team in the country.
Also on deck: Jordan Lyle's arrest and what it means heading into the season, Cam Vaughn's exit from the receiver room, Florida State missing the AP Top 25 for the fifth time under Mike Norvell, and a look at Darian Mensah's numbers against the blitz. Shannon Dawson talks tempo and explosiveness, the guys break down an offensive line that lost a wave of talent to the NFL, and it all builds to the biggest question on the schedule: does Miami survive the trip to Notre Dame?
Toast also announces his first game as a high school defensive assistant, the guys settle old business from last year's predictions, and there's the usual sponsor reads and detours before the season actually kicks off.

With only two shows to go before we give way to the Recap Shooooow... instead of rankings, hype or payrolls, we're talking about off-color jokes, impalements, snakes in your helmet, and machetes versus hatchets in the Publix parking lot... welcome to OBB Benched!
Only two Benched episodes left before the real season takes over, and this one runs the gamut. Pat McAfee gets dragged for his Hall of Fame induction speech (and has to go apologize for it on Dan Patrick), a high school football player in Arkansas finds out the hard way that a cottonmouth snake had been living in his helmet for an hour, and a road rage incident in a Publix parking lot escalates into a genuine machete-versus-hatchet standoff. Naturally, the guys have opinions on who won.
In between: the ongoing debate over the Food Gospel of Scoop (this week's entry involves canned tuna, boxed mac and cheese, and a very specific draining technique), a long detour into whether any snake can actually be a good pet, and the usual Five Questions round covering the best cheese for a grilled cheese, the phrase that's stuck with you for years, the sound that instantly spikes your heart rate, first kiss stories, and which sport actually produces the best all-around athlete.
Orange Bowl Boys drops weekly, with OBB Benched as the companion show for everything that doesn't fit the main feed. Two more Benched episodes before kickoff — subscribe so you don't miss the season preview.

Ro, Jenners, Scoop, and Toast get into why: what a reloaded offensive line actually needs to look like behind Jackson Cantwell, what Darian Mensah changes about the offense's ceiling compared to last year's run-heavy attack, and why the defense's identity as one of the most physical groups in the country isn't going anywhere with Rueben Fatheree and Corey Flagg gone.
From there it's a full off-season rundown. Miami's $44 million payroll checks in second nationally behind Texas, and the crew runs the whole top ten guessing game live. Eddie Royal's ACC Network sitdown with Mario Cristobal gets broken down for what the Greentree practice intensity actually says about this roster. And when Jake's asked what could derail a team this loaded, there's really only one honest answer.
Also in this one: Jake makes his case for LSU having the best uniforms in college football (sorry, Miami fans), Michael Irvin buys Mark Fletcher's mom an RV, the kicking battle nobody's been paying attention to, and a look at what the schedule looks like once Student of the Game, live streams, and recap shows are all back in rotation for the regular season.

As the season approaches... We are officially on the countdown to the end of Benched for this offseason, and with it the end of Five Questions... so as we wind it down this week, we'll get into aloof outfielders, live TV blunders and naked dining in South Florida... Welcome to OBB Benched!
Things get off to a rough start when a national anthem cover sends the guys down a Clarabelle the Cow rabbit hole they never fully recover from. From there it's live TV blunders (a baseball player who ran a full home run trot before finding out he got robbed, and a minor-league pitcher one strikeout dance away from a hamstring injury), a QVC wig segment with an unfortunate choice of words, and a deep dive into Hollywood, Florida's monthly nude steakhouse dinner — yes, it's a real place, and yes, Local 10 sent a camera crew.
Then it's Five Questions: the highest-divorce-rate job or hobby, the scariest two animals you could fuse together, the harshest thing a parent ever said, the go-to excuse for getting off the phone, and the funniest comedy movie ever made — which somehow turns into a full breakdown of the Spider-Man movie universe and Tom Holland's Odyssey.
Two Bencheds left after this one. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy36m - Aug 10, 2026 - #481: Miami Camp & Mario's Extension | Carson Beck's Gonna Be a Hall of Famer
Mario Cristobal just got paid — a deal that pushes him past $10 million a year — and the first thing he did was hand money back to the school. Congress finally did something about the chaos in college sports, clearing the Protect College Sports Act of 2026 through a major hurdle, and Darian Mensah needed exactly one practice at Green Tree to figure out what he signed up for.
Ro, Jenners, Scoop and Toast are watching the Hall of Fame Game live as they break down the extension and why nobody in South Florida is bothered by the math (the market went up, and he still isn't a top-10 paid coach). They get into why this Miami staff runs more like family than a corporate front office, sort through the preseason poll snub (Miami at #7, zero first-place votes, and yes, they have thoughts about Dan Lanning), and check in on a recruiting class that's now sitting at an 81% blue chip ratio.
There's also a Leagues Cup road trip that goes sideways over stadium parking, roster updates on Aidan Lowe and Luka Gilbert, a full walkthrough of what the new transfer portal legislation actually changes, and a very confused reaction to Purdue's new AD going viral for the wrong reasons.
Football's back, boys.

Instead of top-rated quarterbacks, training camp or GM sagas... we're talking about influencer degrees, terrible grading scales, getting sucked out of airplanes and Spaceballs! Welcome to OBB Benched!
Ro's still out, so Jenners, Scoop, and Toast keep the bench warm one more time before Miami's 2026 fall camp opens tomorrow. This week's five questions cover Arizona State's new bachelor's degree in becoming an influencer (yes, that's real), a screenshot of a grading scale out of California that nobody can quite believe, and the return of Rick Moranis for Spaceballs 2 after 30 years away from the business.
Along the way: Scoop's Panda Express standoff over two pennies, a Ryanair passenger who nearly went out the window at 20,000 feet, a sequel debate nobody wins (Phantom Menace still haunts one of these guys), and the athletes whose careers injuries cut short before we ever got to see how good they could've been.
Also: Miami lands the No. 1 spot in the ACC's preseason media poll, and Tua's already banged up at Falcons camp before a single practice.

Ro's off in the Keys chasing lobster, so it's Jenners, Scoop, and Toast holding down the show three days before Miami's 2026 fall camp officially opens. The guys get into whether last year's back-half surge was a real foundational shift for this program or just a hot streak that happened to end at the right time — breaking down the offensive line, a running back room that's the same faces with a different mentality, and a wide receiver group they think is one of the deepest in the country.
From there it's a full defensive line check-in (Lightfoot, Damon Wilson, Blount, Hayden Lowe) before the crew gets into Todd McShay's praise for five-star quarterback commit Darian Mensah and what a locked-in QB1 means for how Miami spends money everywhere else on the roster. They also run through PFF's early returning ACC quarterback rankings and argue about who's missing from the list.
Outside of Coral Gables, the guys break down North Carolina showing GM Michael Lombardi the door before Labor Day, then play a game guessing how long Bill Belichick survives the season given his record without Tom Brady. FSU fans get a bonus storyline too — Tom Herman reportedly signed on as an hourly staffer making $25 an hour while still owed millions from his LSU buyout.
Camp opens next Tuesday, so consider this the last quiet week before things get real. Go Canes.

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy38m - Jul 29, 2026 - #478: Tyson, Sewer People & 5 Questions | OBB Benched | We're All Struggling Down Here
Instead of tampering, tired narratives or big game anticipation... we're talking about gender confusion, old lady asses, sewer people and vacuum cleaner sex... welcome to OBB Benched!
The guys start off arguing about a couple of new streaming shows — a prison-break thriller called I Will Find You and a little-people dating show on HBO Max that spirals into a full debate over Peter Dinklage and the Snow White remake. From there it's Mike Tyson at the ESPYs not knowing who Shohei Ohtani is, which somehow becomes the highlight of the whole segment.
Then it's two Florida stories back to back — a 77-year-old woman with an extremely unfortunate randomized license plate, and a Central Florida man who made the news for what he was doing with a vacuum cleaner in broad daylight. In between, there's a real, honest-to-God mystery about groups of people sneaking into the New York City sewer system at night that nobody can quite explain.
The back half is Five Questions: the coolest last name anyone's ever heard, the greatest uniform in sports history, a decision made in under five seconds that changed somebody's life, the word that instantly ruins a sentence, and the one animal that's a flat-out 10 out of 10 masterpiece. Kangaroo, horse, and tiger all get their case made. As always, a handful of new show-title finalists get floated along the way.
For the full breakdown of Miami football, ACC news, and everything serious, check out the main Orange Bowl Boys feed — this is just where the crew comes to be ridiculous.

Big news out of the Roman household before the football even starts tonight — Tali is officially headed to Loyola Marymount to play beach volleyball, and Ro takes you through the whole recruiting journey, including the moment she almost talked herself out of leaving Miami. From there it's straight into ACC Media Week, where Darian Mensah explains why he left Duke for the freedom of Shannon Dawson's offense, and the crew breaks down the money situation that pushed him out of that Duke locker room in the first place. Manny Diaz gets his say on the tampering questions that followed Mensah to Coral Gables, and Pat Narduzzi gets absolutely nothing but grief for it.
From there the running back room conversation takes over — is this current Miami group the best the program has ever had, and how does it stack up against the Gore-Portis-McGahee era? Ro tells the story of the very first recruiting tape he ever watched, thirty years ago, and who was on it. Then the real outrage of the week: Malachi Toney getting left off the ACC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year ballot entirely, while Darian Mensah gets the nod for Miami. The guys argue about whether the one-player-per-team rule makes any sense at all.
Second half of the show goes fully off the rails — a countdown to kickoff on the whiteboard at home, a look ahead at what might be the best Saturday of college football all year on November 7th, some FSU bulletin board material that gets an immediate response, and a tangent about a certain senator's whereabouts that somehow ends with a full breakdown of tortoise lifespans, geography, and mating habits. And yes, they finally land on a name for the show, after floating about six different options in the last ten minutes.

Instead of top players, big commits and preseason rankings, we're absolutely loaded with greedy owners, bad fighters, angy Bison and penis fires... welcome to OBB Benched!
Ro's out this week, so Jenners, Toast, and Scoop turn Benched into a full five-questions gauntlet: five unhinged stories from the week, one debate after each.
First up, the Carolina Hurricanes' Stanley Cup engraving controversy — owner Tom Dundon put his entire family's names on the top two lines of the Cup, ahead of staff who've been with the franchise for decades. That spirals into which pro franchise the guys would each buy if they had the money (spoiler: nobody wants 81 home baseball games).
Then Conor McGregor's big UFC comeback lasts about a minute before a suspicious knee injury ends the night, which gets the guys arguing about the worst sporting events they've ever personally paid money to sit through. A grandfather at Yellowstone getting launched by a bison mid-photo-op leads into the show's best family legend stories — a pool full of roaches, a broom fight nobody in the neighborhood ever forgot, and a drive shaft that fell out of a car in the middle of the night.
Kristin Cavallari's coach-class-for-the-kids, first-class-for-mom travel policy gets put on trial, Crumbl Cookie's new "dirty soda" gets dragged for having the sugar content of nearly 30 donuts, and the episode closes on a story out of Indiana that's genuinely hard to summarize — you'll just have to listen.

Ro's off the grid this week (cruise ship, matching-T-shirt family vibes, send thoughts and prayers), so the guys bring in Lakers Canes 305 himself, Mando, to help break down ACC Kickoff. And there's a lot to get to.
Our boy John Michaels sat down with Mario Cristobal at ACC Media Days, and the group runs through the good stuff: Mario on whether last year's title game loss counts as a failure, why the fan base finally feels different heading into a season, and the recruiting machine that's turned Miami into the team nobody wants to face on the trail. There's also a stretch on his phone — the man is carrying over 10,000 unread text messages, and the crew has a lot of feelings about that.
From there it's the ACC's freshly rewritten tiebreaker rule (yes, this is a direct response to last year's mess), a new name running the league's officiating department, and the CBS Sports take that Miami now has the best running back room in the country — with a depth chart so loaded that last year's starter is currently number four.
The back half is all Florida State. Tom Herman is in Tallahassee now, and the guys play out the schedule week by week trying to figure out exactly when he takes over for Norvell. Spoiler: nobody in that building is going 500.
Plus a full look at Miami's 2026 schedule, the World Cup and Open Championship betting card, and Mondo sticks around long enough to get roped into naming the episode. Go Canes.

Instead of ACC Kickoff, corporate sponsorships or snubs... we're talking about sad fans, Florida women and butt drugs... welcome to OBB Benched!
474 opens with the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding chaos, including Charles Barkley explaining, better than anyone possibly could, why he skipped it to go play golf instead.
From there it's an extended tour through Ro's empty-house bachelor diet — cottage cheese, arugula, monk fruit, and a Ninja CREAMi doing more work than it should. The guys rank ice cream flavors, discover Culver's, argue about Frostys, and somehow still find time for a viral clip of a five-year-old Mets fan having an existential crisis on camera.
This week's Florida Woman story is one for the record books, Sophie Cunningham gets her flowers as the most quotable athlete in the WNBA right now, and the crew debates TV's most evil villains before landing on a couple of streaming recommendations worth checking out.
Five Questions closes out the show, covering everything from soccer positions to worst addictions to the most peaceful moment of each guy's life — and yes, it gets weird before it gets sentimental. Classic Benched.
Heads up: this episode leans into some frank, adult-oriented humor throughout — listener discretion advised.

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy41m - Jul 13, 2026 - #473: Miami's ACC Stars | Coach Leo Would Never
Football season is officially in the on-deck circle. Ro, Jenners, Scoop, and Toast open up 473 with ACC Media Kickoff a week away and a full slate of Miami news to get through — but before any of that, Ro shares something personal: the story of his daughter Natalia's comeback from ACL surgery, from the stage in Orlando where she got hurt to the same stage a year later, where she came back and reclaimed it. It's a rare unguarded moment for the show, and it hits.
From there it's back to business as usual down at the Green Tree. College Football 27 finally dropped, and the guys have a field day with the fact that Mario Cristobal opted out of being the Canes' in-game coach avatar — which means the honor falls to a fictional Leo Hernandez, kicking off a bit that runs for the rest of the episode.
The crew works through the CBS Sports wide receiver room rankings controversy (spoiler: they think Miami got robbed), Ahmad Moten cracking ESPN's top five defensive players in the country, and who's actually heading to ACC Media Days to represent the U. There's also a long stretch on the international soccer fandom taking over South Florida during the Club World Cup, a new Big 12 sponsorship deal with Monster Energy that has the guys doing math on what conference-wide naming rights are actually worth, and an MLB Draft weekend preview with a couple of Miami commits worth tracking.
As always, it wouldn't be an OBB episode without a tangent or six — golf talk ahead of the Open Championship, a cruise line debate, a baseball coach story that goes somewhere nobody expects, and the crew's ongoing search for what to actually name this episode.
Big thanks to our partners this week: Paul Bange Roofing, Rapid Auto Lease (ask for Drew), and Beatin the Bookie for keeping South Florida covered on roofs, rides, and picks.
Go Canes.

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy44m - Jul 9, 2026 - #472: Giannis, Russini & 5 Questions | OBB Benched | A Float Full of Me's
Instead of Notre Dame delusions, video game rankings or recruiting... we're talking about Giannis, Russini, bees, body parts and pickleball fights... welcome to OBB Benched!
The guys kick things off debating which South Florida acquisition is bigger right now — Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat or Brady Tkachuk to the Panthers. The answer might surprise you, because the Panthers argument is pretty airtight. Three trips to the Cup, a roster full of guys still in their mid-to-late 20s, and now reports of the Panthers potentially landing Connor Hellebuyck from Winnipeg. If that trade happens, Toast makes the case this could be one of the best teams in NHL history. The Heat situation is more complicated — Giannis is 31, the salary cap is already torched with Bam, and the last time the Heat made real noise it was in a bubble with Jimmy Butler. Cautious optimism at best.
The Diana Russini story makes its way to Benched — The New York Times (which owns The Athletic) ran a big piece on her, and the guys have some thoughts about a reported $800K annual salary that nobody saw coming. The conversation goes places.
Then Scoop mentions a bar on Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale that he drove past with his daughters in the car. Jenners makes the mistake of Googling it. What follows is about five minutes of the crew slowly discovering the 321 Slammer website, its gallery, and its monthly event calendar. Highlights include a fistology night and Bear Union Wednesdays. Toast ends up explaining what a bear is to the group. This is Benched at its finest.
Two million bees escaped from an overturned 18-wheeler in Orange County, Texas on Father's Day, which leads into a surprisingly genuine conversation about how fascinating bee colonies actually are, and how beekeepers find the queen in a swarm of 2 million insects. Then a Florida woman beats a guy with a pickleball paddle over a ball retrieval dispute. She gave police a fake name. She's a nurse.
Five Questions this week: the funniest kid from high school and where they ended up, what everyone in their 30s should know by now (changing a tire and the word "ask"), what cartoon deserves a comeback (ThunderCats is already in production apparently, but Toast goes Hong Kong Phooey), and then a legitimate debate breaks out about whether we actually landed on the moon. Scoop is not convinced. Toast tries. The last question — what movie should never be remade — produces a solid list: The Natural, Field of Dreams, Back to the Future, Shawshank Redemption, The Fugitive, The Game, and Usual Suspects.
Show title vote at the end: Float Full of Me's narrowly edges out Find the Queen and Don't Go to the Gallery.
Go Canes. Bang.
