Roadhouse Brewing: Paving the Way to Sustainable Breweries
50m | Apr 26, 2023Celebrating Earth Day once a year is not enough. How about an entire month? Yes, Earth Day is in April, so you could consider April also being Earth Month. But in reality, everyday should be Earth Day. And it is in that spirit, that we are talking with Roadhouse Brewing in regards to sustainable breweries.
But what does sustainable really mean? And how do breweries fit into that picture?
Meet Jon from Pure Madness Brewery Group
Having really only a superficial understanding of how a brewery can be considered a sustainable brewery - Meaning they use solar, repurpose their spent grains, recycle waste products, and do their best to treat the planet with kindness and respect - We wanted to delve deeper into what being a sustainable brewery means.
That is why we sat down with Jon Courtois, Director of Operations (and my newly assigned title for him - Sustainability Guru) at Pure Madness Brewery Group. Pure Madness oversees two craft breweries: Roadhouse Brewing Company in Jackson Hole and Melvin Brewing in Alpine, Wyoming.
Jon works in the brewing industry, but he is also in love with the outdoors. Meaning he, along with all of us, has a reason to care about how our beloved beer impacts our beloved planet. An avid snowboarder, living in the Jackson Hole surrounding area, Jon understands first hand why the two breweries under Pure Madness group are working so hard at being sustainable.
B Corp Brewery: Above and Beyond Sustainability
But that's not where they stop. Roadhouse is actually one of a very few B Corp Certified Breweries in the U.S. What that means to you and me as consumers is that we're getting some of the best tasting beer that also happens to be some of the best for the environment.
Officially, B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials.
We hope you enjoy our conversation with Jon about what it means for the team at Roadhouse (with Melvin soon to be following suit), the consumers, and the community to be a B Corp Certified Brewery. Because it's more than just a title. In Jackson Hole, it's a way of life.
