Buckle up and jump into the chat!🛑
📌 Tonight's Agenda:
Waymo's Holiday Nightmare: Waymo vehicles stalled in San Francisco traffic during Independence Day celebrations. Some people reported being stuck for up to four hours due to the congestion.
Tesla Cybercab Goes Solo in FL: Tesla rolled out its Robotaxi service in West Miami. This marks their fifth city launch, and for the first time, the cars are running without a safety monitor on board.
Tesla for the Blind?: Elon Musk stated that Robotaxis must meet the needs of the blind. Promotional materials at the National Federation of the Blind's convention showcased Braille labels on hazard buttons and interior door releases.
No More Brake Pedals?: The NHTSA is planning to remove the brake pedal requirement on autonomous vehicles by changing FMVSS No. 135.
Severe Driver Safety Alerts: We cover two horrific incidents, including a Delaware Lyft driver who was carjacked at gunpoint and robbed of his vehicle by three masked suspects. We also discuss a Kenosha man facing felony charges for sexually assaulting his Lyft driver during a ride to work.
WTF is the Fong-Gillen Amendment?: Amendment FONG_041 aims to protect network companies like Uber and Lyft from vicarious liability under state or local laws. If passed, plaintiffs would have to prove gross negligence rather than standard negligence. This protection would broadly apply to passenger ridesharing giants and delivery apps like DoorDash, UberEats, and Instacart.
Wisk Aero Whistleblower Lawsuit: A former employee is suing the Boeing-backed eVTOL startup. The lawsuit claims the whistleblower was fired after reporting that the autonomous air taxi software bypassed basic aviation software testing requirements.
Joby & Toyota Joint Venture: Toyota will conduct 51% of the manufacturing for the S4 Air Taxi. This agreement gives Toyota exclusive rights to build the S4 and ties a $250 million investment to certification and production targets.
