  • Transforming Demons

Join Resistance Recovery host Piers Kaniuka and Are Thoresen as they discuss his book Transforming Demons: The True Story of how a Seeker Resolves his Karma From Ancient Atlantis to the Present-day.

Are Thoresen was born in Norway in 1952. A doctor of veterinary medicine, he has also studied anthroposophic medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, osteopathy and agriculture. Since 1981 he has run a private holistic practise in Sandefjord, Norway, for the healing of small animals and horses, as well as people. He has lectured widely, specializing in veterinary acupuncture, and has published dozens of scholarly articles. In 1984 he started to treat cancer patients, both human and animals, and this work has been the focus of much of his recent research. He is the author of Demons and Healing (2018), Experiences from the Threshold and Beyond (2019), Spiritual Translocation (2020, all Temple Lodge), The Lucifer Deception (Clairview 2020) and several other books on complementary medicine published in various languages.

    About this book -

Having misused women, power and the life-energy of his followers, the Seeker must overcome his demons - not figuratively but literally - in the astral, etheric and physical dimensions of reality. But in order to face them, he must first cross the threshold to the spiritual world...

Transforming Demons takes us on an astonishing journey - from contemporary Norway to Ancient Atlantis, to Ireland and India - where we encounter leprechauns, dragons, evil spirits, hallucinogenic drugs, and a mysterious golden cross with a red ruby at its heart.

With hubris, arrogance and deceit, the Seeker has abused his magical powers in previous existences. If he is finally to resolve his knotted karma, he must first confront his misdeeds, and the demons that were created as a result. Then he must learn to transform those demons in order to free them - and him - from the weight of his past.

This is a remarkable true memoir that crosses lifetimes, thousands of years and manifold dimensions. It is an authentic story of transformation and redemption on the path to self-knowledge, freedom and love.

You can purchase Are's book here.

  • Mitch Horowitz's Occult America

Join host Piers Kaniuka and researcher and author Dr. James Ryan as they discuss Mitch Horowitz's book Occult America: The Secret History of How Mysticism Shaped Our Nation (Bantam, Sept 2009). This episode was recorded on September 23, 2020.

As the Washington Post wrote about author Mitch Horowitz he "treats esoteric ideas & movements with an even-handed intellectual studiousness". He is the editor-in-chief of Tarcher/Penguin and is a PEN Award-winning historian that has been censored in China. Visit him online at www.MitchHorowitz.com and buy his book here.

    About the book:

It touched lives as disparate as those of Frederick Douglass, Franklin Roosevelt, and Mary Todd Lincoln—who once convinced her husband, Abe, to host a séance in the White House. Americans all, they were among the famous figures whose paths intertwined with the mystical and esoteric movement broadly known as the occult. Brought over from the Old World and spread throughout the New by some of the most obscure but gifted men and women of early U.S. history, this “hidden wisdom” transformed the spiritual life of the still-young nation and, through it, much of the Western world.

Yet the story of the American occult has remained largely untold. Now a leading writer on the subject of alternative spirituality brings it out of the shadows. Here is a rich, fascinating, and colorful history of a religious revolution and an epic of offbeat history.

From the meaning of the symbols on the one-dollar bill to the origins of the Ouija board, Occult America briskly sweeps from the nation’s earliest days to the birth of the New Age era and traces many people and episodes, including:

•The spirit medium who became America’s first female religious leader in 1776

•The supernatural passions that marked the career of Mormon prophet Joseph Smith

•The rural Sunday-school teacher whose clairvoyant visions instigated the dawn of the New Age

•The prominence of mind-power mysticism in the black-nationalist politics of Marcus Garvey

•The Idaho druggist whose mail-order mystical religion ranked as the eighth-largest faith in the world during the Great Depression

  • Jeffrey Kripal's Authors of the Impossible: the Paranormal and the Sacred

Join host Piers Kaniuka and author and researcher Dr. James Ryan as they discuss Jeffrey Kripal's book Authors of the Impossible: the Paranormal and the Sacred. Recorded on January 27, 2021.

Most scholars dismiss research into the paranormal as pseudoscience, a frivolous pursuit for the paranoid or gullible. Even historians of religion, whose work naturally attends to events beyond the realm of empirical science, have shown scant interest in the subject. But the history of psychical phenomena, Kripal contends, is an untapped source of insight into the sacred. By tracing that history thru the last two centuries of Western thought we can see its potential centrality to the critical study of religion. Kripal grounds his study in the work of four major figures in the history of paranormal research: psychical researcher Frederic Myers; writer Charles Fort; astronomer, computer scientist & ufologist Jacques Vallee; & philosopher & sociologist Bertrand Mheust. Thru incisive analyses of these thinkers, Kripal ushers readers into a beguiling world somewhere between fact, fiction & fraud. The cultural history of telepathy, teleportation & UFOs; a ghostly love story; the occult dimensions of sf; cold war psychic espionage; galactic colonialism; & the intimate relationship between consciousness & culture all come together in Authors of the Impossible, a look at how the paranormal bridges the sacred & the scientific.

  • Judith von Halle's Coronavirus Pandemic: Anthroposophical Perspectives

In this episode Resistance Recovery founder and host Piers Kaniuka and pastor and activist Rev. Andy Stinson discuss Judith von Halle's book Coronavirus Pandemic: Anthroposophical Perspectives. Recorded on March 5, 2021.

What lies at the root of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the worldwide pandemic it has caused, affecting the health and livelihoods of untold millions of people? What are the deeper, spiritual realities behind COVID-19 and the global turmoil it has left in its trail?

In an effort to answer these queries Judith von Halle composed two letters in March 2020 based on her spiritual–scientific research.

Judith von Halle, born in Berlin in 1972, attended school in Germany and in the USA and subsequently studied architecture. She first encountered Anthroposophy in 1997, and began working as a member of staff at the Rudolf Steiner House in Berlin, where she also lectured; in addition she had her own architectural practice. In 2004 she received the stigmata, which transformed her life. Her first book was published in German in 2005, and she now works principally as a lecturer and author. She and her husband live in Berlin. You can order her books by visiting here.
