Big Trout, Bigger Tuna, and the Faux Pas Lodge Invitational

In Hopedale and Delacroix, Capt. Rykert explains how Tropical Storm Bertha’s push of saltwater could improve fishing across the lower St. Bernard Parish marshes and outer bays. He reports that the speckled trout bite has been the strongest it has been all summer, with anglers finding fish around old island bottoms, wellheads, platforms, and other structure. He also explains why the best action comes early, how moving water and cooler morning temperatures help during 90-degree summer conditions, and why starting with live bait before switching to artificials can keep trout and redfish feeding.
In Venice, Kleo Blue recaps the 28th annual Faux Pas Lodge Invitational, where anglers overcame a shortened tournament schedule following Tropical Storm Bertha. The event produced impressive catches, including a 250-pound swordfish, a yellowfin tuna weighing more than 220 pounds, speckled trout approaching seven pounds, and several oversized mangrove snapper. Kleo also discusses the tournament’s history, the support provided by its sponsors, and the Wish to Fish program, which takes children from Children’s Hospital and Miracle League New Orleans on guided fishing trips.
