In this episode, I share the day I overheard my mother, my father’s sister, and my uncle talking after discovering my father had a gun in our home. I never saw the gun. I only heard the fear in their voices as they tried to decide what to do before something terrible happened. As a little girl who had already witnessed domestic violence, hearing that conversation was enough to leave a memory I’ll never forget.

This wasn’t just another childhood memory.
