It's Not Yours, It's HIS | Eternal Return on Investment | Pastor Brandon Woodard
40m | Nov 2, 2026We work hard for what we have. Our money. Our homes. Our cars. Our savings. Our retirement. We earn it, spend it, save it, and invest it as if it all belongs to us. But what if everything we have was never really ours to begin with? What if we're not actually owners, but managers of something God has entrusted to us? And if God were to take a look at how we're handling His resources, what would He find?
In this message, Pastor Brandon Woodard continues our Eternal Return on Investment series by exploring Jesus' parable of the shrewd manager in Luke 16:1–13. Jesus tells the story of a dishonest manager who, despite his failures, understood the importance of planning for the future. While his dishonesty wasn't something to celebrate, his willingness to think ahead revealed a powerful principle: If the world can be intentional about investing in temporary things, how much more intentional should followers of Jesus be about investing in eternity?
The truth is that everything we have belongs to God. Our checking accounts. Our possessions. Our opportunities. Even the resources we worked hard to earn. Scripture reminds us that the earth and everything in it belong to the Lord. We are simply managers of what He's placed in our hands for a time. And when we begin to see our finances through that lens, it changes everything about how we spend, save, give, and live.
But Jesus takes the challenge even further. He teaches that whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. Faithfulness isn't determined by how much money we have. It's revealed by what we do with what we've already been given. We often tell ourselves that we'll become generous when we make more, give when we're financially comfortable, or start making a difference when we have enough. But if we're not faithful with the little things today, why would we expect to be faithful with more tomorrow?
Being a disciple means more than believing the right things. It means living them out. It means evaluating where our money goes, making intentional decisions about our resources, providing for our families, blessing others, and investing in God's kingdom. Whether it's creating a budget, changing spending habits, or using what we have to help others encounter Jesus, faithful stewardship begins with one decision to manage God's resources His way.
God is first. It all belongs to Him. And the question we have to ask ourselves is simple: Am I being a good manager of what He's entrusted to me?
