Three Points, Plenty of Questions: Atleti 1-0 Depor

this episode of Partido a Partido Podcast, Emmanuel Lavogez (@LaLigaLavo) and Kelvyn Brown (@kelvynbrown19) break down Atlético Madrid’s narrow 1-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruña, secured by Julián Álvarez’s goal from Alejandro Grimaldo’s assist.

Despite taking all three points, Atlético had to work hard for the win. We look at Deportivo’s brave 5-3-2, how they caused problems for Simeone’s side, and why Jan Oblak was so important in securing the result.

We also examine Atlético’s recurring defensive problems down the right-hand side, the lack of coordination in their pressing, and the difficulties in building from the back without Cuti Romero’s diagonal passing.

Simeone’s half-time adjustments are another major talking point. Robin Le Normand and Giuliano Simeone came off the bench, and Atlético found the breakthrough just two minutes later. Was it a change in personnel, a tactical switch to a back three, or both? And what does it say about the growing influence of Atlético’s substitutes?

Finally, we discuss on what to expect from Levante this Saturday at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia
