The Signalman by Charles Dickens - Read by Westley Smith

Season 4 | Episode 7
43m | Dec 28, 2022

"Halloa! Below there!" What calls to the lonely signal-man in his railway cutting?

What is the purpose of the phantom figure whose appearance portends disasters?

Can the sceptical traveller manage to convince him that no ghostly hand has rung the bell?

Written a year after the Staplehurst Rail Crash, this first-person horror/mystery story by Charles Dickens was first published as part of the Mugby Junction collection in the 1866 Christmas edition of All the Year Round.

This audiobook version has been, read, produced, scored, and mixed by Westley Smith.

As a special treat this Christmas I have put together a recording of a reading of Charles Dickens’ Ghostly tale, The Signalman.

I have done it in the same style as all my ‘As Yet Unexplained’ episodes, with music, atmospheres, and sound effects.

The reading will hopefully be the start of many more in the future.

It is, as always completely free and is not monetised in any way.
